Could you ring the dept, and ask, if theres anything you can do as your too unwell, so cant travel. The nurse came out to see hubby, at first now he has to go to the hospital, if he can.
I had to cancel the same appointment (24 hr tape and echocardiogram) 3 times last year/beginning this year. The hospital weren't bothered. It's a neat NHS trick as far as I can tell. You can only attend hospital appointments if you are well enough to get there (or is that being cynical?). I was finally able to get there in May, by which time I was on thyroxine plus the treatment advised by Dr P, so my heart had calmed down anyway.
Obviously all heart symptoms should be properly checked. However, it seems to me that palpitations, chest pains and atrial fibrillation are integral symptoms of hypothyroidism/adrenal problems. Something that cardiologists seem to recognise even if GPs and endos don't.
Historically, since I was 20, my heart has always been the thing that doctors seize on. I have been asked if I have a hole in my heart and ECG'd and ultrasounded more times that most people have hot dinners. The results is always the same: "abnormal" for ECG's and just a slight prolapsed mitral valve which, surprise, I now know is a common symptom for thyroiders.
I have been filled full of beta blockers, which I now refuse to take, in an attempt to reduce my heart rate and left to live with constant atrial fibrillation.
I started on thyroxine in last November and saw Dr P for the first time in April. I cannot even begin to tell you how much different my heart has been this year.
So my personal experience is to get your thyroid/adrenal meds sorted. It's very likely that is the cause of your problem, although as I said at the start it is always wise to get properly checked.
Hi They will come out and fit it, if asked Have to me, when I used to need one..You may have to wait thought. Phone them, done by a Tec. Also taking back, absolutely anyone can take it back, you just unplug yourself, it is all in the micro chip. May be they can advise you of a volunteer?Otherwise Taxi there if suitable for you but make sure drops you right by the entrance.Look at a site map, if not sure of the nearest point,WEB
My neighbour had one done, I took her in to have it fitted then I took it back early next morning but we have an elderly friend who just told them she couldn't get the thing back that early and they said to bring it when she could. Seems that they want them in early so that they can give them out to other patients on the day of return. When I returned my neighbour's one I was just told to 'put it in that box' They must collect them all then download the information.
I used to be able to get an ambulance pick-up and the bumf the hospital gives out still says you can, but I was told to get a taxi! Luckily I was well enough to walk. If you suffer from allergies, get some antihistamine cream or calamine lotion in, as it itches like &^%$ where they stick the probes on your skin. I was bright red for nearly a fortnight.
