Susan-Tristam1, are you having RAI for cancer, and having to go off your thyroxine to have it?

If that's the case you are right in the middle of the treatment process. It took me about ten months from start to finish, two surgeries at first and then 3 RAI doses (one treatment and two scans). Or it could be for graves and be a one off treatment?

I found that I gained about a stone every time I went down to no thyroxine. So during the RAI treatment it was really just hanging on by my fingertips and trying to cope, it's quite a roller-coaster. I had to just let go of a lot of concerns like what was happening to my weight, because it's out of control, and there is really nothing you can do until the treatment is completely finished. It's only then that your medication can start to get stable.

Thyrotoxicotis.... When your thyroid is just producing too much if everything and you get really hyper, nervy and super thin? Is that what the doc is saying you have?

How come they cant get your meds right? Are the docs giving you enough meds to make you feel well but then panicking becuse the tsh is low? Is your free t3 going way over range then? Or are the docs just attempting to medicate you to the tsh?

If the docs are attempting to medicate you to your tsh and failing to get it right, run a mile from them and definitely think very hard about nuking your thyroid..... That can create more problems.

What are your test results? Free t3, free t4 and tsh? What about antibodies? You need to know all these to help you make a decision about rai......

You are entitled to know them so ask the doc for a copy of your results fot the past three years..... Post them on here.... Lets have a look whether you have a competent team or a pair of clowns trying to look after you.

Xx g

Are you taking thyroid hormones for hypo.... Hence the weight gain. Or are you on carbimazole for hyperthyroidism?... In my reply above i assumed you were a poorly treated hypothyroid..... Do you have graves disease?
