If you retain your cervix won't you need to continue with cervical smears? I never knew leaving it in was an option!

If it's removed then chances are you'll need to take HRT.

Edit: can you leave one ovary in?

I had mine left, GP bit dismissive, but actually it does play a part in sexual response, I've never regretted it. I didn't like the idea of having a vagina like a bag stitched together at the top, at least my body feels like it used to, there is no sign to me or anyone else that I don't have a uterus anymore. my approach was leave as much as possible because medicine doesn't actually know what parts of women's bodies do what and think if you don't want can't have a child why would you want any of it! I also had my ovaries left, just one now, but it is them which means you don't need to take Hrt. Why would you want your cervix removed? If you had skin cancer on your face would they want to take your whole face? No.

I had a hysterectomy 10 years ago for fibroids and RC excesdive lending that I'd put up with for 5 years (now know that this was thyroid related, even though undiagnosed). Had to fight surgeon to keep ovaries and cervix as I didn't want and early menopause. Surgeon said " but it's easier for me if we take evertything out"!! Shocking response!!! He did as asked. Was not happy with me and treated me appallingly post surgery. I have never regretted my decision.

Menopause happened normally and I haven't had a prolapse. I'd say just take the bit that's not working!!! Once it's gone you can't put it back!
