Chris Steele says take thyroid meds after breakfast :(

It was a very quick comment made on This Morning today (was advice on when to take all sorts of medication), but he said to take thyroid medication after breakfast. Not a very helpful piece of advice, especially considering he is Patron of Thyroid UK.

I think Thyroiduk.org will pick up on your post. If he did, it is wrong.

He did say after Breakfast . Confusing, I will still take mine an hour before food. :)

Beansmummy, two hours after breakfast is ok. Don't 'spose he mentioned that little fact?

No, he was working his way through the day and saying when the best time to take certain medications was. There were some to take before breakfast (7am) and, assuming breakfast was at 8am, thyroid medication and other hormone drugs should be taken after that.

I am following a Facebook discussion on it too, so it isn't just me who heard it and, although it was a very fleeting comment, lots of people heard it - one person has already said that if he said it, it must be right. If it was any "bog standard" doctor who said it, I wouldn't have been surprised, but it isn't something he should have said.

I wasn't doubting you, Beansmummy. What a stupid omission/error :(

I didn't think that you did at all :) I specifically watched the item on the programme to see if thyroid meds were included, just very disappointed that so many people may now accept what he said.

You take them when is best for you! I take mine last thing at night, no waiting for breakfast (if I eat that day!!) I am guaranteed my stomach is empty and I was always taught if you take medication at night and you get side effects, they happen while you are asleep, so reducing the problems.

I take mine at about 5 in the morning, then have a cuppa tea at about 6. Is that too early for a cuppa? Or is it just food that has to wait. I don't eat until later anyhow, but I have wondered if my tea has a bad effect.

An hour after is fine.

I think an hour is supposed to be enough time for your morning cuppa, from what other people post here . I usually wake up in the early hours so take mine then, and it's hours before I have anything to eat or drink.

Thank you. I'm similar. I wake about 4, take my tab any time between 4 and 5 and then get up have a cuppa and head down the gym. Brekkie is usually around 10 ish.
