Pls can anyone recommend how I can take blood for testing. I ve recently been feeling sick again after doing well on nature-throid for6 months. I ve had to stop it because of the massive weight gain especially in the upper part of my body. Am using t3 now but I feel tire all the time and sometimes find it hard to lift my legs while walking. Am trying to do private testing. Tanks

If you've been taking Nature-throid and then began to gain weight, you may not have been on an optimum. When we are introducing NDT, it is raised slightly every two weeks until you have no clinical symptoms.

You have now changed to T3 and if in the UK I shall give you a link to recommended labs and members who've used them will respond. I do know Blue Horizon do 'pin-prick' tests which may be easier.

When taking blood and having a test you have to leave about 24 hours between your last dose of hormones and the test and take afterwards. Also blood should be taken early and fasting, although you can drink water.

The FT4 and FT3, particularly FT3, as FT3 is the most important as it is T3 the active hormone required in our billions of receptor cells. Read about FT3 in link below:-

Many people convert levothyroxine and when the reach an optimal dose feel fine.

Others, like those on this forum, myself included couldn't get to the level necessary for one reason or another.

If you use Blue Horizon they supply a lancet for Finger prick, a vial to collect a small amount of blood, and a biohazard bag for posting.

You can find deta ils on the main TUK website:

There is also information on other ways to be tested.

The day before the test make sure you drink plenty of water (not too much) so that you'll be able to draw blood easier.
