by blood results are - HbA1c 43 mmol, TSH 14.2 mu/L, Free T3 5.0 pmol/L, Free T4 7.9 pmol/L.

I have no idea what any of these levels mean other than apparently my TSH is high? I have started levo 25mg to increasing to 50mg in 2 weeks. Will I now start to lose weight with diet and exercise????

Welcome to the forum speckles70.

Please post the ranges for your thyroid blood test results, otherwise no-one can make sense of your numbers. It's also helpful to say what country you are in, which you can do by adding this info to your member profile.

With regard to losing weight, if you have excess weight soley due to hypothyroidism, it's unlikely you'll see any significant change until your thyroid hormone levels are optimal, which is likely to take some time. In the meantime, eat sensibly and don't push yourself too hard with exercise, as your body doesn't have sufficient thyroid hormone to properly sustain you at the moment.

Hello speckles70 :) The HbA1c value is your blood glucose and 43 mmol indicates you are, I'm afraid, pre-diabetic. Diabetic is 48 mmol and over, pre-diabetic is 42-47 mmol so you are just in the bottom of that range. If you haven't been informed about it or want further advice you might like to pop over to the Diabetes & Hypertension part of this forum. :)

Oh I reply hope so. I am relying so heavily on this group. Until I was 42 I was 9 st and I was 16 st by the time I was 50. Thyroxine 25 and Cytalapram for 7yrs didn't help. Will do Blue Horizon test on Monday then will be on a mission.

its so depressing. The weight really is getting me down. I was seeing endo for weight loss surgery am 2 yrs down the line of jumping thru all ther hoops. When I seen him last week he questioned that I probably wouldn't lose weight after surgery if am sticking to 1200 cals now an not losing weight. And its seems only at this point did he test my thyroid!!! Grrrr

My first post - I was diagnosed with underactive Thyroid 5 weeks ago and started 100mg Levothyroxine. I have lost a stone since then so has been good for me in that respect. Still got other symptoms though like feeling cold, swelling in neck, and constant shoulder ache (which is what I originally went to the doctor for).

This has been a great forum and I have learnt loads - when I get my next check up I hope to post my results if the doctor will print them out for me.

I have so much wrong with me iev no idea what is related to thyroid and what is related to my heart failure, angina, arthritis etc, etc.... But I have high hopes for levo x
