Hi all ☺ May well be completely unrelated to anything thyroid but my palm, around the base of my thumb is so itchy it's driving me mad. There's no redness, no dry skin, no soreness just very itchy. Does anyone have any ideas what can cause this?

Hi I have no idea what causes it but interested to see if anyone has answer as I get this too. Excruciatingly itchy but no apparent cause.

Same here!!!!
Both palms itch!!!
It happens mainly in the morning a few hrs after i take my 100 mcg of t4 and 15 mcgs of t3!!!!
I thought it might be an allergic reaction to the thyroid meds but it doesn't leave a rash or cause any more symptoms!
sounds like chilblains to me. a very dear friend of mine who is 97 and still very lively and definitely sound of mind, suffers occasionally with severe itching of palms of his hands and insoles of feet - he gets a special cream - bought over the counter from Boots - simply called "chilblain cream". I wouldn't have believed it was chilblains - but he is a smart, intelligent man and tends to know a lot more than us younger folk.
Itching in general is a side effect of the drugs I get it on arms
It does sound very much like chillblains as someone else said, but here's a slightly more quirky idea I heard from a friend years ago (she also has thyroid issues)
You know when you go for any sort of Chinese style therapy such as acupuncture / reflexology etc (not sure if they're both Chinese) their theory is that certain parts of the body will reflect problems in other areas. I seem to recall there are specific areas on the inside of the big toe (or other toe can't quite remember) which if tender, relate to possibly liver problems. And in a conversation with this friend she said she'd been told that the area at the base of the thumb relates to the thyroid. See, told you it was quirky
That is interesting!! I don't think it's chilblains. That's a reaction to the cold, but it hasn't been. There is no redness or swelling, no soreness. The skin is completely normal just itchy.
Georgina .... your absolutely right ... I just Googled it

Well not quite the same but recently I get very tender left index finger round the nail. I have had it for weeks, doesn't throb, at first I thought it might be a whitlow coming but it's not..been on levothyroxine for about 10 weeks ?? Seems to be when I am tired around bedtime mainly..
Ah how interesting, so it wasn't so quirky after all. I've also remembered why my friend told me about it. We were meeting for lunch in a garden centre, she's one of those friends we keep saying 'must meet up' and finally we did. While we were choosing from the menu (I have Coeliac Disease she follows FODMAPs diet, so choosing is interesting) I was sort of massaging the base of my left thumb. She looked at me quizzically and said why are you doing that. I said that sometimes its just sort of painful / tender and then she told me about the thyroid link!
Bow taken thank you!
Hummmm very interesting, theses are the exact areas I get psoriasis too.
I had that an itch that I couldn't scratch on inside of thumb. It has not happened since I had TT and then of course hormone replacement .
I also looked up acupuncture points and found it related to thyroid🤓🤓
I hadn't been treated prior to TT but maybe I should have been !!
No just reread what I wrote I meant reflexology points , not sure if they are the same as acupuncture points x
I too have had this for years now and the scratching of this itch (on anything from fabric to sandpaper!) in an attempt to relieve this has led to the mound of my thumb being almost raw! I now massage Nivea's extra recovery hand cream into my hands every night now and that has controlled it to a certain extent, but Georgina61's explanation is a very interesting one which I shall certainly look at further.
I get this random itchiness on the sides of my hands and above and below my lips. No marks; just itchy.
That has been a problem of mine in the past where i would almost itch my skin off! Once i was medicated it got better. One pointer is you can definitely use argon oil on you after your soap in the shower which helps to get rid of the dryness. It is a struggle for sure.
