Hair falling out badly
Theresa72 Have you had your ferritin tested? Low ferritin can cause hair loss.
I had it checked in August it was normal
Ask for the result and the reference range, assuming it was a GP test, you are legally entitled to the result.
When I had mine done the range was 20-150. 21 is normal, 149 is also normal, but there is a vast difference in how a person will feel at 21 compared with 149. Plus low ferritin can be a cause of hair loss and raising ferritin to it's optimal level can help with it.
Ok i will get the results tomorrow
Theresa,
Hair loss is commonly associated with low ferritin or high T3 levels.
As you are only medicating Levo, it would be prudent to get your ferritin results and post complete with ranges (numbers in brackets) as a doctors "normal' is not always the same level that members have found to be most beneficial to good thyroid function.
Drinking excess coffee may indirectly effect thyroid hormone synthesis as the caffeine increases cortisol secretion. Prolonged elevated cortisol further exacerbated by low thyroid hormone can impair the function of HPA axis, and decrease the liver’s ability to clear excess oestrogen's from the blood. This increases levels of TBG, the proteins that transport thyroid hormone by binding, rendering it useless when there is not enough free to be used actively.
I have never had my thyroid tested in the morning it's always been in the afternoon I've read before that you're supposed to in the morning
Your TSH will be higher in the morning, that's all. If you're not concerned about your TSH, then it doesn't matter when you have the test done.
But what do you call a 'normal' TSH? There's actually no such thing. When you are on thyroid hormone replacement, it should be one or under, but it doesn't matter how low it goes.
And what exactly is your ferritin level? There again, 'normal' is meaningless. You need the exact number.
I don't think coffee can make your hair fall out - as long as you aren't drinking it at the same time as you take your levo! Because that will affect absorption.
mi also change to nonsulfate shampoos, and castoroil conditioners, and they say rosemary oil mask b4 shampoo may help......
high vit a, high selenium, high cortisol tested by 4 x a day saliva, low normal ferritin iron all cause hair loss and low ft3 or not optimal levels
