Hey, so I have hair falling out left and right and it's really stressing me out and affecting my mood. My doctor said I'm not at a point just yet to start medicine, but I want my hair to stop falling out so fast. Is there anything I can do? My hair is about at my armpits and I'm cutting above my shoulders this weekend. Does anyone have any tips to help my hair? I tried biotin it only made my skin really oily.

Hair falling out please help? I'm nervous and stressing.
What you have to do is go to the surgery and get a print-out of your latest blood test results and post with the ranges. Ranges are important. I shall give you a list of clinical symptoms. GP is probably going by your blood test TSH alone and in the UK they have ridiculous rules for diagnosing, i.e. in other countries we are prescribed if TSH goes above 3 and we have symptoms. In the UK it is 10.
Did you have the blood test at the very earliest, fasting?
Were you taking biotin when you had blood tests? If so it can falsely affect thyroid blood test results

Also get vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin tested
I'm sure I have thyroid problems, and up to now my gp has been reluctant to test me! I have peripheral arterial disease! Fibromyalgia! Mild emphysema! Chronic pain syndrome! Didn't suffer with any of the above until I had vascular surgery . Anyway sorry for going off at a tangent but he eventually tested me and I'm sure he said mine were "5" and I was basically imagining it . After reading this interesting page it's obviously not in my head 🤔
Hi is it actual Thyroid hair loss? I used to be a hairdresser and can tell you that long hair does tend to show shedding more. Worry and stress can aggravate hair loss and so can menopause and general poor health. If it is falling out evenly with no obvious vissible thinning or bald places then the best thing is to try to stop looking for it and worrying about it. (I know easier said than done but it does make thing worse).
If it is medical but the doctor is not helping you could maybe try to find a Trichologist, they specialise in conditions that affect the hair and scalp.
many things can cause it..aging, menopause changing hormones, high stress/cortisol, high vit a or high selenium, low nutrients, high sugar, low or low normal b12, low ferritin or low normal, low d3, dht from testosterone conversion, harsh shampoos don't help....., fungus, mold, and low thyroid or high thyroid....without testing it is a shot in the dark....what age are you...I noticed a lot of friends around 50 started having hair loss all at the same time...they were also on thyroid meds but also in hormone change age.....
is your scalp dry or ichy...if so try tar shampoo hence someone on here suggested and it does help a lot....also sulfate free shampoos, or cowash shampoo that don't lather....washing your hair more often if it is dht helps but ALWAYS BE GENTLE and RINSE IN COLD WATER...air dry...and hot iron appliances makes it worse so heat shield and low heat ......
saw palmetto if it is dht
primrose oil and flaxseed oil some women say help
multi b and b12 daily
check your ferritin and needs to not be low normal
easy on the hair spray near roots
check tsh free t3 free t4...some women hair loss stopped when levels were normal but
I will say it takes a good 3 months bec of the hair cycle to see what is working...
that is the frustrating part...
Hello 16sar,,,,yes I understand how you feel,,my hair has been thinning and coming out for years,,, and there is nothing the gp seems interested in,,,the first thing is to stop stressing about it,,stress makes it worse,,,I did try a hair supplement and it seems to have helped,,but sadly I could not keep up with the cost,,,I do know that your hair needs several vitamins and minerals,,to help with the hair,,and one of them is zinc,,,I miss having nice hair,,good luck in your search for helping your hair,,,ttfn from karen.
