What is your ferritin level?
Ferritin a year ago:-
Sept 117
Oct 75
Now taking multi vit +iron.
No recent test.
Thanks
No range given? Folk on this forum would advise against multi vit plus iron as contents fight against each other for absorption. Even without ranges your ferritin seems to have dropped considerably from September to October. I would guess that any shock to the body such as the op you mention may contribute to hair loss. Once my ferritin level reached 70 plus it took about a year for hair growth to be visable, particularly along the forehead area. If this is the cause it takes time. It is not advised to take ferritin alongside other vitamins but to take with vit C as this assists its absorption. Is your diet good? Gluten free? Lots of fruit, veg, protein?
How long have you been diagnosed/on medication for? I was diagnosed hypo in mid June and a couple of weeks after starting 100mg levothyroxine my hair started falling out all over. It was very distressing and the shedding lasted about two months. Over the last few weeks and since my levels are back within normal ranges it has stopped and totally gone back to normal shedding levels. My hair is still very thin but I am hopeful in time it will be restored as new hair grows in and hopeful for the same for you.
I’ve been on a very long journey since 2009 with symptoms starting well before that. No diagnosis apart from fibromyalgia, although very recently Hashimoto’s has appeared in records but never verbalised. I pushed for treatment late 2010 but GP only allowed 25 mc. In 2016 it was stopped. I became ill last year and have been fighting since, recently putting my meds up to 50 mcg which Endo said was OK with my TSH dropping to 1.0 (0.5-4.4) T4 15.9 (10-20) and T3 5.1 (3.5-6.5). My hair has been thinning for past 5-6 years but it seems to have been worse this year. I did have a major op in April to remove a tumour from nerve to spinal canal. I do lose weight and have always been very slim. It’s difficult to pinpoint the cause as several possibilities. I’m pleased that your hair loss has stopped and feel hopeful for mine to stop too!!
Many thanks
