Here's advice on working out what you should've been charged and how to claim a refund.

For goods worth between £15 and £135, you should expect to pay VAT on the value plus postage and insurance; and the collection fee. If the package slips through the net, it's a bonus to you, but not UK plc's coffers. ;-)

Hey susiebow

Sometimes as SBT says the post office slip up; sometimes they charge too little, occasionally they don't charge at all. I would guess for your custom charge to be correct the total of your order including shipping and handling/postage costs came to just over £120 equivalent ? With the mean exchange rate we're getting at the moment it can seem hefty. Work it out before you order and remember not to go near £135 equivalent - things then get mighty expensive as you are treated as if you were importing commercially.

On the other hand - rejoice ! At least you have the financial means to try something else if levo isn't working for you :)

What was the total cost of your goods, postage and packing, at the time you ordered?

If the value of your order was about £100 and was properly declared, then add 20% VAT and £8 Post Office customs clearance fee, which is around where you are. Assuming posted to you from outside the EU!

If your order had been over £135, you might have been liable for even more.

If your order had been under £15 nothing would have been owed.

Added note:

Once you go above £15, the declared value (and hence the VAT payable) must include any postage and packing costs.

susiebow , I have just ordered from the U.S. and was surprised at the increase in the price of the meds .

My order came to coppers below £120 . If I have to pay that much to the post office it will be a very expensive order indeed .

How much was yours if you don't mind meeting asking?
