Hi just wondering if any of you have suffered with really bad insomnia like I am doing. As I previously wrote here, I was overmedicated over a period of few weeks. Suffered terrible anxiety, insomnia, nausea, lack of appetite, fatigue. About 5 weeks ago I reduced my levo at 125mcg , and still can't sleep without sleep medicine. I never had this problem before, I slept very well on levo with our without ndt or if I added t3. This sleep problem is slowly kill me. I haven't been able to fall asleep. At this moment I get to a point where I can lay down and relax, but unable to cross into threshold of deep sleep. My endo referred me to a psychiatrist who told me I'm little depressed and anxious maybe due to my levo medication. She offered me 6 month tratament with sertraline (zoloft) due to the low levels of serotonin. For start I chose to take 2 pills of 5HTP but the doctor told me it's not enough for my condition. I never used this medications before and I'm a little scared.

Do you have Hashimoto's? If so are you gluten free?
About 15 years ago, I had terrible insomnia when I took too much Levo (150mcg) didn't sleep at all for over ten days!!!! ....Was exhausted, no energy, anxiety, palpitations etc etc
reducing back to 125mcg AND going onto propranolol (beta-blocker) to slow up conversion helped get back under control short term
At later date Tried T3 and NDT - both were worse for me but I have Hashi.
Finally this year......turns out my main issue was gluten intolerance (no symptoms) causing low Vit D & low magnesium
see more on my profile..
I had Basedow and RAI after but I have aTPO level high. I reduced to the levo but insomnia don't go away. In fact, I think I got a fear of falling asleep that I developed after I was overmedicated. Also I was exhausted, no energy, anxiety, palpitations etc and was feew days on propranolol.
And now my mind has entered into a vicious circle and I can not get out. When my brain thinks will falling asleep some kind of arousal cross my mind and I wake me up, again and again.
If you have high TPO then gluten may be the issue.
I was only able to give up propranolol after 17 years, when I went gluten free. I had absolutely no obvious gut issues at all and negative tests for coeliac.
I have now officially got NHS diagnosis of gluten intolerance.
Now supplementing Vit D oral spray and magnesium, as well as 100% gluten free diet obviously
You may well be depressed through lack of sleep. It sounds like torture
I am not a huge fan of CBT but this could potentially help to break the cycle you are currently experiencing.
If you agree, speak to your GP or psychiatrist to access some sessions.
Good luck.
Could be adrenals?
Hi adin - I don't know if this will be of any help but I had suffered with insomnia for years. Since starting taking vitamin B12 and vitaminB complex as recommended on this site my insomnia has definately improved. I now usually get to sleep quite quickly and only wake up once a night.....☺
