Reading your last post/thread - it would seem your iron is very low. Are you treating it ? Also the results you posted 3 months ago would not have been seen by others as they were at the end of your own post of 4 months ago :-)

Low Iron - B12 - Folate - VitD can inhibit the conversion of T4 into the active T3. Your FT3 result looks low still. Low iron can also be the cause of the palpitations as the heart beats faster to produce more energy in the form of oxygen. How are your B12 levels ?

What other medications are you taking in addition to your thyroid ones ? Maybe something is preventing the uptake/absorption.

Haven't had b12 or iron tested in awhile last time tried to take iron it made me very dizzy

palbert01 - there are many types of iron you could try. Ask your local Pharmacist for advice. Solgar do Gentle Iron. You also need to take good amounts of VitC to help the absorption of the iron.

What other medications are you taking ?

Nothing vitamin s..ambin to sleep

Not sure what Ambin is - somethng natural or a med ? Not being able to sleep suggests you are poorly treated for the thyroid or an adrenal issue :-)

It is prescription sleeping med Ambien 10mg is what I take sorry for spelling

I assume "Nothing vitamin" means you are not taking nutritional supplements. The thyroid system is sensitive to deficiencies; even though I am now well, I continue supplementation because I don't want to go backward, ever.

Ambien is not a good long-term sleep solution. I would encourage you to find a non-BigPharma solution, because those drugs are foreign to your body chemistry. I would recommend you take a look at the book "The Mood Cure", by Julia Ross, which is nutritionally based. Using substances like 5HTP, tryptophan, melatonin can aid sleep in many people. Personally, I use a blend of free essential amino acids to short-circuit middle insomnia.

Ross also discusses the hormone connection. Substances like T3 (active thyroid hormone) and estrogen can also have positive effects on sleep.

Good answer Marz shows a lot of insight.

My little two cents worth is that after my Total Thyroidectomy I bounced between 125 (too low) and 137 (too high) both are standard doses here in the US. I learned how to average down to 130 mcg and that was perfect, at least for five years. My first (sensible but retired) GP explained that you can also get tired on too high a dose as well as the obvious effect from too low a dose. He said that tiredness on too high dose is because your heart is working a bit too hard and it tires you out. Seemed to happen to me.

Palberts if you are new to this there is a lot of fiddling around, sometime taking years to get to the right dose, it's even harder finding a doc or Endo who knows what they are doing. It took me three years and three new Endos before I finally got the right dose, medication and doc. Hang in there, keep reading and logging into this site.

Low iron will cause faster heart beat. In my case, i had 88mcg levothyroxin in past 6years. In this year, i changed to 100mcg. Recently, i felt iverdosage symtons. After i reduced dosage back to 88mcg, all symtoms gone away. According to my lab report, i had low tsh and high free t4. According to your saying, low iron, folate, or b12 can cause the conversion performance. But why my symtoms fast heart beat, chest tention, depression, feeling hot flash sometims, sleeping problemall gone after reduce dosage. Why?

I have no idea why - except that for you - the dose was too much. You do not mention your FT3 result. Could it be that you felt overdosed as you were not converting the T4 into T3 - who knows - we are all individuals.

Check out rT3 and see what you find.

Yes, i am going to discuss with my endo. this monday.

Two possible.

Thyroid is back to function a little.

Second, the rt3 blocking cause stress, iron,b 12 def., cortisol or other issues.

Palberts01,

Try 125mcg/137mcg alternate days which averages out at 131mcg daily.

I have been trying 137 one day and 125 next, everytime I take 137 I feel HORRIBLE joint fatigue, brain fog, out of sorts. .I thought about trying 125 everyday and one day a week take extra pill 125 at night

HI, sorry you're struggling with your dosage. My comment is tangential and may not be helpful, or has already occurred to you/your doc. I tried Levo for hypo and I was miserable on it. When I switched to a natural dessicated thyroid (NaturThroid) I felt like my old self. I'm now using ThyroGold (over the counter) because it comes from the glands of cows in New Zealand and they are tightly regulated, no antibiotics, no hormones, grass fed. It's been working fine for me and I haven't even zeroed in on the proper dose, just kind of guessed at the dosage.

I did just have a blood test so I will be zeroing in on the proper dosage but I do suggest the possibility at least that levo may be the problem, not the dosage, as it's a synthetic and despite what many well intention MDs want you to believe, it is not the whole package for supplementation.

Whether this is true for a thyroidectomy, I don't have the knowledge to say, but if you haven't considered this path, I'd suggest you look into it.

I hope you're feeling better soon!
