I am a bit confused over NDT, can a Doctor prescribe it on the NHS or do you have to buy it privately ?

Claire67,
NDT is not licensed for UK use but it can be prescribed on the NHS on a named patient basis. Few GPs are willing to prescribe unlicensed drugs and they cannot be obliged to do so. Most members using NDT have a private prescription or buy it online and self medicate.
Claire,
NDT is unlicensed in the UK so can not be routinely prescribed without being on a "special named patient basis".

A lot of practitioners are unhappy with prescribing NDT because there is much rumour around (instigated by Big Pharma) that NDT should not be prescribed, and the problem with any ‘natural’ product is they cannot be patented (but synthetics can ! .. ) ..
NDT can be bought privately as many members have been forced to do. Ask members for relevant info.
.
Where to get NDT (with a prescription).
I have Armour prescribed for me by my G.P.
He is in his sixties and was prescribing it before the big Drug Companies had so much power and Levothyroxine was even around. He much prefers the results he sees in his patients, but only prescribes it if he sees that his patients are not getting well on Levo. His mantra is "I like to see my thyroid patients get well".
(Not looking forward to him retiring) !!
Doctors can prescribe it but generally won't because compared to levo its expensive.
