Using T3 and nothing has changed?

I've been upping my dosage every 3 days and there's been zero weight loss. The scales have remained the same.

I'm starting to think the ones I got from someone in Greece aren't the real thing.

I feel great, have been on ndt for over 5 years and before this was on t3 plus t4 for about 8 years, .... I went on to t3 after i lost three stones with slimming world in 1999. Since 1999 i have gained 5 stones and the only time i lost a little weight was when i did a 500 cal a day diet.

Sorry, but being on t3 doesnt guarantee weight loss. I occasionally manage to lose half a stone or so, but it comes back.

Have been on 800calorie low carb diet for the last month or so.... Lost naff all... I now have great blood sugar levels, and i walk 12 miles a day and work as a gardener....

My tsh is 0.02.

Dont let yourself get too hung up on the weight loss and definitely dont od on t3.. If you stumble on a magic formula, tell us all what it is, but if you don't, just stay as fit and healthy as you can..

Commiserations.. :-(

You are increasing too quickly for your long term well being. How are your levels of Ferritin - Folate - B12 VitD. All need to be optimal for the T3 to work.

What were you taking before ? How long have you been taking T3 ?

More information required ☺

Why do you think they are fake ? Lots of people on this forum take Greek T3 - including me.

T3 is NOT a weightloss pill - it is a hormone replacement which may or may not aid in the reduction of weight. There are many other factors.

Do you have any blood test results with ranges you could share with us - so people may assist you .....

Every 3 days!!! Omg!! Please be careful or it will hit you like a ton of bricks. How many mcg are your dose increases? Let the people on this site guide you to the correct dose, they know what they are talking about and none of them would say increase every 3 days. Be patient and you will get there. p.s Welcome :)

You are being very foolish and risking your health, t3, for people with thyroid problems, isn't a bloody weight loss pill, you need to read and research to understand the problems you are going to cause yourself.

Scales should NEVER be the target of taking thyroid medication.

Weight loss sometimes/often/usually occurs, at least to some extent, when medication is appropriate and adequate.

You give zero background. Nothing for anyone to read to try to understand your situation. You have given us no feeling that you have any understanding of what you are doing.

What you are doing is potentially very dangerous.

I agree with the others, unfortunately you haven't even said whether you have a thyroid problem. Perhaps you do, but if you don't and you've purchased T3 purely for weight loss, if you take them without guidance, you could actually end up damaging your thyroid function and need medication for the rest of your life. Also assuming its the tablets which are at fault isn't really the way forward. I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism 9 years ago and struggling to improve my health and lose weight which is very stubborn. I have just ordered T3 (not from Greece) but have a lot more reading up to do (and a few people who have very kindly offered guidance) before I actually start taking them. I would let everyone know why you're taking them and if you do have thyroid disorder, you will have some blood test results you can post here, so that those with good experience can guide you. Please be careful.

I was on t3 for thirteen years and still struggled to lose weight, but I felt OK, that is the point of thyroid meds, how you feel not weight loss. It sometimes happens if everything else is fine and your eating is right for your body.

If you keep taking t3 when you don't need it you will cause art fib, where your heart beats unevenly, this can lead to stroke. I am in t3 only and still have lots of symptoms and someone suggest I change my dose to one dose, I did that and after about a week my heart went into art fib, it was very scary lasted several hours, I stopped my dose and then dropped it back to what I had been taking. Don't mess with t3 unless you have good reasons and a good understanding of both your body and how t3 works.

I was on NHS T3 for nearly two years. I lost a stone in the first three months, then put it back on in the next three months and gained another two stone after that. There is no guarantee of weight loss.

I hope you are taking T3 because you have a thyroid problem and for no other reason. Assuming this is the case:

T3 works faster than T4 but it isn't a miracle and increasing like this is dangerous.

T3 wouldn't show any weight loss. Ithe is a fallacy that improved thyroid function will result in weight dropping off. I have lost 5 stones and kept them off but they were very slow to go and it requires constant tracking and vigilance. No pill will do the job for you. Get onto My fitness Pal and get going. You need exercise too but it's what you eat that will determine weight loss.

Why do you want to be boney when you can be soft anyway

I also got my T3 from the greek supplier and I feel nothing, even at 100mcg. Pulse remains at 55-65?! Temps also no change.

100mcg is a very high dose! It's equivalent to 400mcg or more of Levothyroxine! If you start your own thread, people will comment to help you figure it out.

Jefner,

GildedButterfly may not have seen replies yet or may not want to respond. There's nothing in her opening post to suggest trolling.

Maybe doctors are joining the forum and writing these messages and posts to put us off the idea to take T3.

Food_ie,

An unfounded trolling accusation made against GildedButterfly and a PM warning you off T3 don't add up to an anti-T3 organisation.

I have recently started T3 and notice benefits in my skin, hair and nails. My muscles are a wee bit softer which allows my physio to dig deeper and delight in my squealing, nevertheless, a few days later I can move much better. My morning temperature has risen gradually and I have much more energy which allows me to exercise more.

No, I haven't lost any weight despite a strict diet and exercise regime but I hope that will come eventually when my mobility increases.

Others have questioned your motives for taking T3 and have asked you whether or not you have thyroid problems. These are important questions because it tells about your health and medication status providing a basis for advice that might help you.

For me however, at the moment these are secondary issues. What I interpret in your post is despiration to reduce your weight at any cost. This is the problem in my opinion, the issue you need help with the most, the one at the forefront of your mind. If you put obesity into the search function you will get lots of information, tips and tricks. You will get the support you need as you are obviously reaching out and are at a stage of accepting that you need to reduce your weight. This is a positive step, well done.

Some of the others like me have felt very unwell with thyroid disease and have reached for T3 to give us hope of being able to function normally again. For this reason, tempers flare at the mere suggestion that someone might be taking T3 and not need it. Like all drugs, there are side effects and dangers especially for those who have not fully informed themselves, hence the reason why people are asking you to comment on whether or not you have thyroid disease. Being overweight with thyroid disease is completely different to being overweight without thyroid disease. This is why we need you to provide more information in order to steer you in the right direction.

T3 (for me inNDT) makes me feel much better but the downside is that it stimulates my appetite every time I increase my dose so I end up gaining weight initially. It then takes very determined dieting and exercise to lose any.

Wow ... What a warm welcome. I'm not some trolling doctor out to stop people using t3.

I just wanted advice from people who knew what they were talking about!

No point expanding on my post now when I've had these accusations thrown at me.

Thanks Mandy but it's been a horrible welcome so I just don't see the point tbh.

I wouldn't worry about that, people will jump on it because they are aware of how damaging T3 is if not needed. It's to shock you into stopping doing damage. Soon forgotten and it's not personal is it because they don't know you. Your health is more important right now so do what you can to get the help you need. Is your user name from the Shakespeare quote??

t3 does cause weight loss, if the weight was caused by hypothyroid, like myxedema/fluids, but you would have to take it in large enough amounts and long enough, in order to raise metabolism sufficiently. Also, if you are on levo or ndt too, and not converting the t4 to active t3, the t4 in those meds, will then stop the t3 from being utilized in the body. If you have hashimotos, often thyroid meds don't work well because of inflammation, blocking thyroid hormone receptors, plus other low hormones like cortisol and growth hormone are common. Inflammation caused by the mechanism that causes autoimmune disease, keeps weight up as well.

GildedButterfly,

If you have a thyroid issue causing weight gain and want to start over you can delete your post and all replies by clicking on the v down arrow underneath your opening post, and select delete.

If you don't have a thyroid issue you'll realise from this thread that T3 is not a slimming aid.

Please tell us your story, perhaps we can help.

Every three days seems far too fast for a dose increase. It's not a weight loss pill. What was your Ft3 before you started and how long have you been on T3?

Weight loss with t3 is not instant. You have to find the correct dose also. I have been taking t3 and NDT now for about 6 weeks and I have lost weight. It isn't dramatic but everyday my tummy/ body is a tiny bit slimmer than the day before. Increasing every 3 days is dangerous as your body could become hyper. There is a fine line between being hyper and having healthy weight loss whilst on thyroid meds.

Also yes I don't think the uni pharma T3 are that strong at the moment but for me t3 is more effective than NDT.

I hope you are not taking these purely for weight loss though as it will mess your thyroid up permanently.

This is not a weight loss forum and T3 is not a slimming tablet. There are plenty of forums for losing weight around maybe you should join one of them, however this is not achieved by T3 and using it for that purpose is dangerous. I know that there are persons who would try or do just about anything to lose weight but this is not how it goes. As few members before me already said, increasing dose every 3 days is completely not normal and just proves that you are trying to use T3 for something that it's not produced for.

I take it because I want to and it's up to me what I take thank you very much. You don't have to take it as a personal attack merely because I express an oppinion.

I also take it because obviously I've tried levo and NDT and neither worked. I am ok on uni pharma. I just have to take a higher dose and cannot afford t3 from outside the EU
