I have a goiter which fluctuates in size and gets bigger when my period is due. I have high antibodies but 'normal' TSH (still high at 3.5 but doc says it's normal and medication is not required). Does anybody have any advice on a fluctuating goiter?

I have no real advice just to say that this used to happen to me. At the end of the working day the goitre would be much bigger. As hospital appointments are usually in the morning I remember the Endo not believing me! They had to eventually! The point is that mine was more noticeable in times of stress or exertion. They removed the whole gland and some parathyroids and now I am told they keep the tsh suppressed so it does not come back! Elizabeth we have to put up with a lot of incompetence! I hope others here can give you more support and advice
ElizabethM,
I was reading an article yesterday which mentioned that thyroid glands expand and contract during menstruation and pregnancy so I imagine this would also make the goitre expand and contract.

TSH 3.5 is high but NHS won't usually diagnose hypothyroidism until TSH is over range. You may find it beneficial to supplement 200mcg Selenium which is good thyroid support.

Thanks for the info guys. I have been taking selenium for a couple of months but I've yet to get another antibody test to see if they have subsided. I also went to a naturopath some months back and he gave me Noni and borage extract, but to be honest they don't seem to be doing anything.
