Elvera111,
NDT and Levothyroxine are thyroid replacement. NDT is combined thyroxine (T4) and T3 derived from pig thyroid. Levothyroxine is synthetically produced T4.
LDN is low dose naltrexone which may help regulate the immune system lowdosenaltrexone.org/
NDT contains all the thyroid hormones, not just the T4 in levothyroxine. LDN is something completely different: an immune modulator, which many people with auto-immune illness take to reduce antibodies, as in Hashimoto's.
I am on LDN now. I have gradually increased the dose from 0.5mg to 3.0mg. I shall continue to increase by 0.5mg evey week until I reach the usual maximum dose of 4.5mg. I have been able to reduce my NDT from 105mg to 90mg so far. Apparently LDN reduces antibodies and thus inflammation. This seems to be happening in my case as my dry eyes, aches and pains and sore stomach/digestive upsets, all symptoms of my Hashimotos thyroiditis are slowly abating. I am also back down to a healthy weight for my height and I expect my antibodies will show a reduction when tested. I live in NZ where LDN is not funded and the process of taking 0.5 mg capsules compounded by PCNZ in incremental doses has not been cheap ($95 for 100 0,5mg capsules). However, when I reach the target dose of 4.5mg and can be prescribed capsules of 4.5mg, it will be much cheaper. My GP is a star...I asked to try it out and he was happy to give it a go!
Hi you can get the 50mg pill and make your liquid. It's much cheaper than the pills and there are plenty sites that show you how. It's very easy. Google liquid ldn
