Condition of scalp

I lost hair off the top of my head, but it grew back like a little tree, the hairdresser and the GP said it was probably hormonal. since then I have like sores on my scalp, which catch and bleed when I use my brush. Have spent a lot of money on shampoos, treatments but it appears to be getting worse as it is very itchy?

Sounds like psoriasis maybe?

I thought that as well, but how can you treat your scalp, is there a shampoo, as I have tried everything

I'm not exactly sure @Wednesday12 but I know it's an Autoimmune condition so looking at healing that would be the main priority. Have you other Autoimmune Dieaseas ?

You may want to be tested by a dermatologist, experienced in treating both dermatitis herpetiformis and contact allergies. I have both! I thought that avoiding wheat and gluten products in my shampoos, conditioners, hair dye, etc. was my panacea. I found out a couple of years later and many, many, many outbreaks later that I am allergic to other ingredients in both my hair care and skin care, makeup products. It is a slippery slope to say the least!!

I was nearly bald on Levo. But I use Liz Earle shampoo, conditioner for fine hair and the hair oil. It took a while but I have normal looking hair now. I would get a kit from qvc as you can return it if not for you.

I was going to suggest Liz Earle shampoo as well, best places to buy are QVC or her own website. I have psoriasis, have done since 5, I've had many stinky gunks stuck to my head overnight over the years but just washing with Liz Earle is easier and gives better results.

Me too q_62 that Levo was killing my hair!!!

Being called bald by your family is not not nice and really affects your confidence if you have enough energy to bother.

Are you still on Levo q_62? Just wondering if it was the Liz Earle stuff alone that worked. I am on Levo and the state of my hair depresses me :-(

Yes I am on 100mcg not enough

I just use the trio shampoo, conditioner and use the hair oil every time I wish my hair. The oil I think is the secret for me. A bottle of oil lasts a year too.

I had these sores for a short while last year. I don't recall hair loss but my hair had gone quite wiry. I put it down to gluten intolerance as I had other issues with gluten. I excluded it out of my diet and bought some gluten free shampoo from the health food shop and it stopped very quickly after using. I'm back to using regular shampoo now and all seems fine.

Hope this helps!

Btw: I have Hashimoto's

Interesting Dalmation2 !! Did you know that once you have one autoimmune you're more likely to develope further autoimmune conditions so it may have been that psoriasis (autoimmune) was beginning and you managed to turn it around by eliminating gluten from your diet as that was your 'trigger'. We have to get to the root cause with these diseases.

Out of interest did your Hashimotos improve once you quit gluten?

I also have Hadhimotos and mine improved a lot, could never eat it again. It set off my antibodies!

Yes, I am aware that you can get more than one autoimmune disease. I get an arthritis in my fingers too. I feel these 'extras' come when you continue eating gluten (as I feel my body become more inflamed). Definitely cutting gluten was the best thing I did but also I cut dairy and sugar too. Generally gut healing has been my mission these last few months

When once I've sorted my low adrenal fatigue I'll move from using Levo to NDT.

Try rubbing castor oil on at night and washing next morning it works and also makes your hair grow. You can also put castor oil on eyelashes and they grow thick and long. Good luck

Thank you so much

I used Aveda shampoo but noticed when I switched to a cheap shampoo. Maybe try going back to aveda as my itch appears to be spreading to my forehead

Qvc often has the shampoo conditioner and hair oil together

The only one I can use is a dove one with coconut oil in. I've tried all the special scalp shampoos and they actually make it worse. I get sores too. Also pure coconut oil in general is really good to use as a hair serum and to soothe the scalp.
