Never heard of that one before, many myths floating around.

Not a myth.

All medications and supplements and even meals shouldn't be consumed with tea and coffee.

In the case of levo the caffeine in tea and coffee inhibits its absorption - in other words you will be under medicating.

The OP was talking about tea in general I believe, not just at the time of taking Levo, that was how I read the question.

Tea is fine to drink throughout the day but best to take your Levo with water and leave at least 30 mins before eating and tea or coffee.

Gary19610,

As long as you take Levothyroxine with water an hour before, or 2 hours after, drinking tea you shouldn't have any problems with absorption of Levothyroxine.

I think this comes from the fact that tea contains fluoride. Also you may be in an area where your water has fluoride added. So drinking a lot of tea every day means you are probably taking in a lot of fluoride. Also, do you use flouride toothpaste? Fluoride is not good for hypo patients.

As Clutter says, take your Levo with water. And for your thyroid's sake avoid fluoride.

Tea and coffee should not be taken WITH levo or within an hour or so of taking it as they can stop it working correctly. the sugar will do you more harm than the tea.

There is also the fact that tea (too much) inhibits iron absorption - not a good thing as we know!
