carolyn982 - there is a list available with the names of Endos whom members have recommended, it's available from Louise at ThyroidUK.

i would use a functional medicine doctor who treats thyroid, not an endo..not ever again, for myself.

Hi from what I've read functional Dr is the way to go- Don't suppose you know of a good one? I live in Glasgow but would travel to London or anywhere if the treatment was good . Many thanks !

i'm sorry, but i am in the USA..i have found one to help me with my gut and immune system, but cannot afford a different one, to prescribe proper thyroid meds. I am hoping to get off of them eventually and get rid of the hashimoto's.

there are functional health dr's in the Uk but I don't know how many of them help with thyroid issues. TBH I tried to find one for my ra and did find one but I am not paying for his services. If you do and see someone make sure you get a recommendation because in my experience functional health drs in the Uk are not as good as the ones you will see in the US.

i was unable to get a recommendation and cannot afford much. its all out of pocket. the one i see wanted me to go back to the endo, for thyroid tests, in order to determine a dose, which is dead wrong!! That endo, sent me for alternative medicine treatment too!! i hate them all and so tired of feeling so bad. I am weak, muscles trembling and in pain, terrible insomnia, low cortisol and probably a GH issue too. What are your symptoms like?

i have to self medicate on t3.

what are you doing for the arthritis.

I take a small amount of meds and see a functional health dr who will helpfully help me reverse my ra. Diet and healing my gut etc has not been enough to help my ra I need to have blood work drawn etc. If you are already self medicating why don't you do a separate post and see what others say about your thyroid it is possible that you need to increase your thyroid meds and find a decent endo that can help you out. Some endo's are better than me. TBH in my opinion meds like ndt are not gonna cause damage like other drugs that are given for ra/lupas etc.

i no longer get opinions from others..i have research this till i could faint. i am unable to raise my thyroid meds, due to symptoms, but have improperly tested , missing or low cortisol and GH, so my next step is to go to a pituitary center. I have tried every kind and dose of thyroid meds and ndt, flared up my hashimoto's horribly..all 3x i tried it.

I don't believe, with missing hormones, the gut repair, is going to help my symptoms, either. I have been at it for 8 months now and 26 months of special diet, crap.

Is your leaky gut healed yet? Did you do the stool testing, urine etc..for neurotransmitters and bacteria? My son and i have barely any bacterial in our guts, from years of antibiotics and other drugs.

Ok - thanks for getting back to me. There aren't many functional medical Drs in the UK so it's a real struggle. Healing the gut and the immune system sounds like the way to go with hashis so good luck with that. Did you know there is a free hashimots online health summit on in a few weeks here's the link to register for it,

Good luck !
