Keep at it! Feeling healthy again can be done.

First off, just a quick note that I really appreciate this site. I live in the U.S. and struggled for several years before finding out that Hashimoto's even existed. Here too, the TPO antibody is not part of our screening protocol for the thyroid. It was only after my TSH was borderline, and my female physician agreed that I needed a trial of levo because I was feeling so horrible, that I began to discover how real my health situation was. I have since had a change in doctor who finally tested the Hashi because I asked her to. She was surprised it had never been done but voila... my antibodies were 2573 for that test. A natural pharmacist has helped me a lot with nutritional things I can do so that the only "drug" I am on is levothyroxine. A side note, before knowing that I had they autoimmune form, a previous doctor put me on nature throid and it was THE WRONG thing to do.

At any rate, with a whole-foods diet and going gluten free as much as humanly possible, my antibodies are down from 2573 in December 2015 to 1532 just this week. The change takes time but it's worth it. I am feeling better all the time.

I also studied up on gluten and processed wheat and decided that old-world fermented sourdough was worth a try because it would help me keep my diet sanity if I can tolerate it. The theory is that old world sourdough with the long ferment changes the gluten and pre-digests it making it more recognizeable to the body. I have been eating it since early March, only 2-3 times per week, but since February my TPO has still DECREASED from 2055 to 1532. This is worth your research and if you love bread, try learning this method.

Here is an article on the subject to start, if you're curious.

Welcome to the forum, Miminaz.

NatureThroid and NDT are fine for a lot of Hashi patients. You are unlucky that NatureThroid didn't suit you and you may find you do better on an alternative brand if you want to try NDT again. However, NDT doesn't suit everyone, whether or not they have Hashis.

I have also read that sourdough can often be tolerated by people who can't usually tolerate gluten and the bonus is that it is by far a tastier bread anyway :-)
