The dose of levo you are on might be too low to raise your metabolism sufficient.

Many on NDT, Armour, Nature-throid etc. contain all of the thyroid hormones our own bodies would produce, T4, T3, (smaller T2, T1 and calcitonin (helps prevent osteoporosis).

Armour, I understand, is the most expensive but there are other NDTs.

If we are hypothyroid, everything slows down, pulse - heart rate - metabolism. We have to have sufficient thyroid hormone replacements whether levo or other ones.

What you have to do is put up another Post and ask for a Private Message to be sent to you with information (no info is allowed on the main forum for obtained prescription medication).

To send a private message we have to click on the person's name and it takes you to a new page (out of the forum). Just info should you need it in future.

It is quite easy to move from levo to NDT. If you take 100mcg of levo 1 grain is equal to approx 100mcg of levo.

I am self-medicating. I spent year and a half on NDT and haven't lost any weight during that time. 2 months ago I switched to T3 and besides feeling much better I finally started to lose weight!

Be careful with T3. An endocrinologist told me T3 damaged the heart.

If you have heart beat etc. meet your Doctor.

The best of luck

This is not true, my heart was permanently destroyed because I needed T3 and I wasn't properly treated but nobody wanted to give it to me until I started to self-medicate. Now that I am on T3 I feel so much better and I would probably have a healthy heart now if I just started with T3 on time.

Personally I found that a straight swap is not the answer. I  stopped my levo for 2 weeks (it can stay in your body for 7 weeks) and then started on a low dose of 1/4 tablet and built up over a few weeks.

I took it slowly and regretted it. Unless you are elderly or have a weak heart it's ok to just switch.
