So I started doing a liver cleanse last Thursday BC I suspected my liver needed a cleanse so yesterday I had skin peeling on my foot, hands ect like a sunburn would does that mean like the cleanse is working and my skin is "regenerating?" Also another question I've heard poor liver function can affect your thyroid function so perhaps if the reason I became hypothyroid in the first place was because my liver was sluggish since yesterday today and yesterday I've felt hot, anxiety, uneasyness and I'm wondering if it could be that my thyroid is working properly now idk

lindsey,

The liver metabolises hormones, filters toxins and cleans the blood.

Thyroid hormones are converted from T4-T3 in the liver and influence cholesterol & other lipids. Hashimoto//hypothyroidism can slow these processes resulting in high cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides, raised liver enzymes and a congested liver that docent convert so well.

A healthy liver is essential in thyroid hormone conversion which is converted primarily through 2 processes: Glucornidation and sulfation.

Datis Kharrazian says Glucoronidation is an important process for converting thyroid hormone & is supported by B vitamins, magnesium, and glysine.

Sulfation involves binding things partially broken down in the liver with sulfur containing compounds. It is one of the major detoxification pathways for neurotransmitters, toxins, and hormones (like thyroid hormones).

He advocates a healthy diet reducing refined carbohydrates and sugars and taking ginger, dandelion, milk thistle and rhubarb root.

I do not know about your peeling skin but previous posts indicate you have candida and EBV that would need to be addressed together with a liver cleanse.

Is it ok to take milk thistle and dandelion root etc while taking thyroid meds? I take liothyronine. Would love to do a liver cleanse in case it helps my conversion, but was worried about taking herbs as I know they are very powerful and can interfere.

puffyface,

I take both milk thistle and dandelion root but always well aways from my thyroid meds.

I have big (genetic) detoxification problems so keep thyroid hormones low but have managed to feel well as keep all nutrients optimal and liver performing well.

Any unused hormones are bad news if your body can't detoxify them well.

I am not medically qualified but I remember reading about a condition called Kawasaki's disease when my kids were young that produced peeling palms and soles of the feet, so it might be worth checking it out especially as you say you felt unwell in addition to your other symptoms.
