I was on Levothyroxine 125 mcg per day. Six days ago I saw a consultant who changed my meds to Levothyroxine 50 mcg and Liothyronine 20 mcg per day. How long will it take before I notice an improvement in my tiredness and brain fog / concentration?
T3 - Liothyronine: I was on Levothyroxine 125 mcg... - Thyroid UK
T3 - Liothyronine
Have you also had vitamins & minerals tested? these need to be optimum for thyroid meds to work well.
You may need a little time to adjust to your change in dose, but I'd expect you to begin to feel better within a short time if this is the right combo for you. Sometimes it needs a little tweaking.
With a small addition of t3 my bloating and constipation resolved very quickly. Everything else was a little more complicated.
Hi,I've been changed from 150 thyroxine to 100 thyroxine plus 20 liothyronine then after 6 weeks I still felt rough so the doctor upped it to 30 liothyronine ,all authorised by my consultant, now it's 3 weeks & im starting to notice I can do more & am less fatigued,it takes timeX
Thanks Debeee. That's what I wanted to hear as Im seeing the consultant 6 weeks after my first appt with him when I was put on Liothyronine so I guess if no improvement he will increase them
Here's hoping, what sort of consultant are you seeing? Mine is an oncologist who specialises in thyroid cancer,in fact a professor X
Mine is an endocrinologist
Six weeks is the normal length of time to see if you need a dose increase so your consultant is on the ball & fingers crossed he/she isn't just going by blood tests but also on how you are feeling ,all the best X
My last blood tests done by the GP a fee months ago were really good but really symptomatic. The consultant was amazing and went by my symptoms. It's such a shame he is retiring just after I see him next. I hope whoever takes over is as understanding as he is
In my case the consultant dictates what & when any medicine changes or extra blood tests are needed to the gp & rightly so as the consultants are supposed to be a specialist in that area ,gps don't have a great depth of knowledge in any one particular area,as we all know,I have a blood test every three months but not to check my thyroid levels just to make sure there's no cancer & that THS is suppressed ,I hope your new consultant is as understanding & well informed as the current one X
I hope so too. I have been battling with my GP surgery for 3 years to refer me and they finally gave in but they didn't expect me to get anywhere with the consultant. I was still in the room when he dictated his letter back to the GP saying if the Liothyronine works for me they are to continue prescribing it for me!!! I really hope it works but I'm going to have to request a prescription from the GP before I see the consultant because he only have me 28 days worth so I won't know if it's working by then
Hi foggy,as far as I know your consultants letter has told your gp surgery what his decision was regarding medicine & dose,I would make an appointment to see the gp & make sure you are getting your repeat prescription,or at least phone up to order them at least a week before you run out & if they want you to come in you'll know, you need continuity so can't wait until you see the consultant again. Next time you see the consultant ask about who will replace him & say you're worried about changes they might make,I would X
I had the same thing a few years ago. Within a couple of weeks a colleague at work remarked. "Oh look, Phyl's back". meaning my personality had returned. Best of luck, you may need tweeks but al least it seems you are under sympathetic medical advice
