Teva liothyronine

I am working my way through the NHS liothyronine licensed meds!

Morningside, I reacted badly to acacia.

Now I have Teva. Previously I was on Thybon Henning with good results.

Does anyone find that TEVA are not as efficient as other brands they've taken? After one week of 10 mcg I have gained more weight and the dreaded insomnia has returned ( 2 hours sleep per night). I am going to up the dose to 15mcg per day in two doses, but just wanted to know if anyone else has been this way.

Thanks.

Well, you only have one to go after that! Advanz Mercury Pharma!

Though we are anticipating two new product ranges - hard capsules in 5, 10 and 20 microgram dosages (two brandings but they are the same product). Supposedly coming to market in the final quarter of 2021. Details in my document:

helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines

I have created, and try to maintain, a document containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, many others around the world.

You can get Thybon Henning if you have a suitably written private prescription - from Roseway and, I think, Chemist4U.

Thanks. I’ll look out for it later in the year. I couldn’t take Mercury pharmacy at it too had acacia. My question really is, are liothyronine brands as variable in their efficacy as levothyroxin brands? I know that different brands of for example LT4 may not be biologically equivalent , and wondered if the same applies to liothyronine.

Yes I think there can be quite a bit of variability in the liothyronine brands. For instance, TEVA lio made me really ill, it felt like it blocked any good effects so that I felt really underactive again. Personally I found Thybon Henning to be quite weak. Mercury Pharma I like the best. I've just been given Morningside lio and I'm starting to suffer the same weird side effects as I did on Morningside levo, namely acid reflux type symptoms, post nasal drip and feeling of a swollen throat or lump in throat. I'm sure my chemist is fed up with me getting weird side effects!

Sorry I got the name wrong - it was Accord that gave me strange acid reflux symptoms. But definitely something similar going on again

Thanks for your reply. I think the different brands all have good points for some and bad for others. It’s a case of choosing by elimination which suits I think. Thankfully my GP is accommodating and hopefully I’ll get the best fit for me soon.
