Hi all
Which sites do you recommend for private blood tests? Can you collect the blood sample yourself?
I want to check my tsh during pregnancy and before I conceive and not sure how regularly my GP will agree to do it

I went to the docs with the guidlines from the british thyroid foundation website it says euthyroid women with TPO antibodies are more at risk of developing hypo in pregnancy, should be monitored, i think it said every 4-6 weeks. I asked my GP if I get pregnant I want to be monitored due to my antibodies. She said I have no problem send you for blood tests, but you may feel like a ginuea pig. ( i don't mind that). plus private is too expensive.
I would go to the GP and ask them the same questions to see how often they are willing to send you for blood tests and mention you might start taking thyroxine so you would like to be monitored and due to your antibodies you would like to be monitored as you are more likely to develop hypo. Just try and get a GP you know who is more likely to listen
First of all I would ask your GP and see if he will do it for you. If there are guidelines for blood testing during pregnancy he has no reason not to follow them.
If you do need private blood tests then Blue Horizon is probably your best bet. Some of their thyroid tests can be done by the finger prick method at home, good providing you can get the blood out (I have great difficulty as my blood starts to clot in the little funnel before it drips into the container).
