Low levels of thyroid hormones can cause havoc with periods so it seems that they could contribute to pms too?

Have you been referred to a psychiatrist or a psychologist or someone else? And was that done without any bloods being checked?

I very much doubt that this is all in the head. It will be biochemical.

So you are undermedicated.

Hi

My daughter uses Progesterone Cream with good results, take a look at the website for lots of really good information.

Best wishes browny.

Nettieboo.

The endocrine system works in synergy and there is a distinct intricate connection between our thyroid, adrenal glands, and sex hormones.

There are positive and negative feed backs loops and if anything is out of sync, it can produce a chain reaction so something apparently unconnected may be so.

You have not filled out your profile. I can only see you are hypothyroid. Can you advise members if you have Hashimotos, and what meds/dose you are medicating in order to receive a more informed answer.

The various female hormones affect thyroid metabolism and vice versa. If you are under medicated this could affect your menstrual cycle.

And a tsh of 3.5 shows you are most definitely undermedicated..... Your doc may have been happy but his job is to make you well, not make himself happy.

What were your free t4 and. Free t3 leveks? I am guessing they either havent been done or are bottom of the range. If they havent been done, i suggest you get a full profile done before you see the mental health team.. Once they realise you are ok they might help your doc to see that he is treating you badly.

Details of private testing where you deal with the lab yourself on the home page. thyroiduk.org.uk. Under testing. Its less than £100 for a profile. I put all my tests on my credit card until i was well enough to ear to pay it back.

I had a Hysterectomy at 42 for severe pms, then I became hypothyroid!

My daughter in law uses progesterone cream which others have advised, it helps her with PMS.

Sorry for the negativity but my Daughter had PMDD for 20 years ,she is 39 this year, had to have an Hysterectomy at 35, this was her choice as PMDD was ruining her life, no children. After seeing many doctors NHS and private , found out she was sensitive to progesterone . I know this seems a contradiction, as I have known progesterone cream to help a few women. Just goes to show how different we all are.

She was referred to a mental health team, it took her a while to convince her psychiatrist it was her hormones, he did a lot of research on PMDD and agreed it was the problem.

She takes oestrogen only patches at the moment and is the best she has ever felt.

She doesn't have any thyroid problems.

Hope this has helped. If you need any more info, I will ask my daughter to pm you.

Best wishes Bev.

Hi all thank you for reply I don't know if it was hasi no one has informed me how I came about too be hypo other than 6 months after having my little one I still wasn't well and my tsh was over 40. Last year I met an endo after I suffered a miscarriage who was adamant my hypo status was due too pregnancy sent me on my way discharged me back too gp for my meds too be halfed and too lose weight as my symptoms would disappear with weight loss. Well I did get down too half meds 50mcg and my tsh went too over 6. I was put on 75mcg and stuck there ever since my personal feeling is I should be on 125mcg but no one agrees.

I don't feel overly tired like I used too but I'm not full of energy either and I struggle too rid myself of colds and sometimes get them back too back.

Hi Nettiboos

Might have emailed you this before because we did email a while ago.

Yoga, whole yoga, has been shown in controlled research trials to maintain the level of GABA up pre-menstrually. A drop in GABA levels prior to menstruation has been correlated with PMT and women who took part in a trial of whole yoga for 3 months reported alleviation of the PMT. (Whilst this is not proof that there is a link between GABA and PMT, it does look very much like it and the women felt good which is what counts)

You need a really good yoga teacher, they are very hard to find, one who includes much more tha just poses.

Good luck
