Soy in omega 3 tablets - gluten free?

Hi, probably a silly question but if the ingredients in omega 3 tablets says 'soy', does that mean they're not gluten free?

Hoop_la, no, soy and gluten are different things. Unfermented soy is very bad for the thyroid. I would find a soy-free supplement.

Thanks Clutter. I just thought that maybe there was gluten in soy. But maybe I am confusing it with soya! Googling it seems to leave me more confused. I think I will do as you say and look for a soy free product! 😊

You might be confusing it with soy(a) sauce which usually contains wheat thus gluten. There are vitamin companies who are soy free ( and any other potentail allergen ) - unfortunately the cheaper products tend to have less of the vitamin and more of the 'extras'.

Thanks catrich I think you are right! Will look for a soy free version anyway as it sounds like its not good for the thyroid anyway.

Soy is very bad for everything, but especially for thyroid. But it's cheap, so you find it everywhere - soy flour in bread, soy oïl in suppléments - we always have to read the labels.

Soy and Soya are the same thing. I Don't know why some say one and some say the other. Soy sauce, soya sauce, same thing. Avoid soy sauce, also. It should, traditionally, be fermented. But, these days, it isn't always so. Unless you know it is fermented, avoid it.

Fermented soy is ok in small doses. Fermentation gets rid of the nasties. But unfermented soy, like soy protein and soy milk, should be avoided like the plague!

Thanks Greygoose. That's good to know. Will definitely be avoiding it now.
