Hi Has anyone tried a gluten free diet and did it work for hyperthyrodism ?
GLUTEN FREE ?: Hi Has anyone tried a gluten free... - Thyroid UK
GLUTEN FREE ?
I presume you have recently been diagnosed hyper, if so I personally wouldn't be changing diet just yet, give the meds a chance to work and your body to adjust, too many changes at once just confuses things and is likely to make you feel worse. There are no quick fixes with thyroid problems, time and patience is best.
That right!!
Right time just wait and everything will be fine.. just believe on it..
God bless
I agree with the others, your body is so messed up it is might be better to wait until your treatment has kicked in before you try anything else.
Saying that, I stopped treatment for Graves three years ago and have been in remission ever since and have recently gone totally GF in an effort to reduce my antibodies - I developed inflammatory arthritis last year - yet another auroimmune condition - so I've been GF since September last year and my Thyroid antibodies have steadily reduced so it looks like the GF diet is working although I don't know what any other antibodies I might have that are not being tested are doing.
Hi, I was diagnosed with graves last October and was promptly put on carbimazole. I had complications with the meds and had to go to hospital in isolation for a week while my white blood cells got back to where they should be. While there I researched into other things I could take and do as I didn't want to go down the iodine or surgery route. Since January I went gluten free and added magnesium, vit D and ate 4 Brazil nuts a day and slowly started feeling better. I honestly think GF helped lots! Last month I got the all clear, although I know it's not that simple for everyone and I know it could come back at any time. Give it a go when the time is right for you. X
I had to be in isolation because the carbimozole killed off my white blood cells but this only happens to 1 in 10,00 apparently so don't be worried! I just happened to be very unlucky. I watched a video on YouTube with an Australian dietitian explaining how important it is to go gluten free if you have graves so that's why I tried it.
Well I understood that gluten pays a massive part in gut damage and autoimmune conditions. I've been gluten free now quite painlessly for 8 months and it's made a massive difference to how I feel. I lost weight, I don't get that lethargy or sluggish feeling after eating and I have learned a lot about how to prepare and cook my own grub
I would recommend it to everyone as the modern day wheats they use is food stuffs is literally making us sick...
Give it a go and see if you feel better
I know I did and like anything....this was a lifestyle change for me not a 6 week diet fad
Would love to know how you get on xx
I have been looking at the GF all morning, so i am tempted to give it a go as with most foods i eat i usually have a small portion and feel bloated afterwards , so will try it once i can sort my head out :/
It takes a little planning but once you're in the groove it's so rasy😊
For example I typically have proteins and veg/salad I don't really bother with carbs and I have to say I feel a million times better... I love bread but it really messes me up its a small sacrifice in the grand scheme of things for your long term health let me know if you need any recipe or menu ideas 😊😊😊
Oh and you can still have gorgeous treats like lemon drizzle cake!! 🎂 Lush!! Xxx
you can send me recipe ideas as i will try them , looking forward to eating properly again
There are tons of websites regarding gluten free. Just Google the Paleo Diet. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and I went gluten free 10 months ago. It's not bad, but you just need time to adjust. I lost 10 pounds without even trying.
thank you. so fat i have lost 9 pounds in less than 2 weeks as cant seem to eat
I feel fine - well I say I feel fine but I've had some strange aches over the past few days. It was really cold and damp where we were on Monday and Tuesday but even with this heat I am still achy. My big toe - joint where you would have a bunion - has really ached for the last couple of days - that's a new one for me, it affects how I walk too which I could do without.
I think the fact that I'm generally feeling fine (I've lost all the constant fibro shoulder pains I used to have) is probably due to taking hydroxycholoroquine although the GF could help, I've no real way of telling having started in the meds before I went GF.
I've been gluten free now for 18 months. Members of my family changed with me and have no desire to go back to eating gluten. My son loved bread, he is delighted with the new sour dough gluten free bread at M & S. Makes delicious toast. Find toasting gluten free bread is the best way. Called in at my local Library/Museum cafe recently they had 12 different cakes to sell, six of them were gluten free! It really is not that hard to go gluten free.
