Neuropathy: I am a hashi with diabetes. Seems I... - Thyroid UK
Neuropathy
What's your B12 level?
I am sorry you also have neuropathy and according to this link it can be connected to diabetes:-
hi there what type diabetic are you type 1 or 2 i'm Alan i'm type 2 but i don't suffer from thyroid systems take care look forward to hear from you.
I have it to I try not take meds as much but I soak my feet in warm water alot and it make them feel better
Here is a link about lion's mane, a mushroom extract, that can help regenerate nerves (it even helps the brain) and might be helpful with neuropathy. Also benfotiamine. B 1 is very helpful for nerves but.. it only lasts about a nano-second in the body. The Japanese found a way to mfg an extended release B 1 called benfotiamin and some people find real relief using it. It also creates another pathway for the body to utilize glucose. The last thing I can think of is B 12... 1000 mcg per day. Do ck your B 12 levels.
My husband was dx with diabetes about 5 -6 yrs ago, since managed with diet and no diabetes medications. I give him these supplements just to be sure that he doesn't develop neuropathy. No signs of it yet. As always, do your own due diligence, research and homework.

Thank you, will check it out
Hypothyroidism causes an elevated A1C which is false. If a finger prick shows high sugar, then i guess you have high sugar. Hashis and hypo, due to inflammation, cause type 2, in which your cells are not sensitive enough to your insulin. If you can treat and get rid of hashi's the diabetes 2, will go away with it. I have been diagnosed with both also. i am puffy and inflamed. Just found out i have multiple food sensitivities and no good gut bacteria, which also cause type 2, as well as a leaky gut, which causes autoimmune disease, from allowing things that belong in your intestine, to effect your immune system...
Functional Medicine is the way to go. If interested let me know.
Also, being hypo can cause neuropathy.
I am very interested in functional medicine. Has it helped you? If so how? I know my gut has been lacking since I was young. I eat really healthy but it's not enough. Thank you
sign up for her healing hashimotos emails..this is where is where i started. She cured her hashi's thru functional medicine approach, it does work.
I am now seeing a Functional Med. doc. It hasn't helped yet. 3 to 6 months on a gi protocol to add back all my missing bacteria and heal my immune system.
drhyman.com/blog/2012/03/01... he is the spokesman for Functional medicne, please read all his articles pertaining to autoimmune disease etc..
You will need testing, to dtermine how best to treat you. I don't think mainstream medicine has anything to offer us..did you notice? Just pills and immune system suppressing drugs, but nothing to fix WHY we have this and reverse it.
So true, I agree. I will consider this. Take care
there are so many on this forum, that just want to know about labs and drugs. They really don't want to look at alternatives. I try so hard to spread the word and i just get shot down.
I'm so glad you are looking at alternatives.
The problem with alternatives is finding someone you can trust. There are a lot of people out there that charge the earth and are only interested in making money. I am lucky enough to know a couple of good ones. It's the doctors I have the issues with, because f their lack of knowledge and understanding.
There is a lack of interest there though and this is what i am talking about. People jumping into thyroid removal, due to autoimmune disease, which is not right. The doctors push for it, they have nothing to offer but surgery and drugs, which make us worse. you can pretty much order your own tests and treat yourself, with the help of some research and book, like isabella wentz..
everyone with autoimmune disease has a leaky gut. Most people have no gut symptoms, just diseases. i found this..it explains it well, i think
Thank you so much for this. I, like you and a lot of people on this web page, know that doctors are only there to sell drugs. and that thyroid issues are little understood by them. Can you say where you got the mushrooms from please. Thank s again
Hi, mado. I am in the US so not sure if this supplier ships to the UK but their mushrooms are high quality... no Chinese stuff... and very affordable. alohamedicinals.com/ I buy the Lions mane and Turkey Tail (good for the immune system/cancer).
Here is the lions mane..

The link below is to one of the more popular and potent brands (in the UsA) that is available in the UK on Amazon UK. Very pricey which is why I use the Aloha brand of mushrooms.

You can search/google Amazon USA then go on the USA site and look up product and ck out the reviews if there aren't enough reviews on the Amazon UK site. I see Swanson's has a very inexpensive Lions Mane. Not sure of it's efficacy tho.

I will check all this out. I have a Chinese herbalist who is brilliant, but she has been too busy. Still hoping she will be able to help, she always has in the past. Thankyou Phoenix
Low B12 is known to cause neuropathy, and often accompanies thyroid problems. Ask for that to be tested. Neuropathy is also present with diabetes and needs to be checked out by your doctor as it shouldn't be neglected. Best wishes MariLiz
I know my b12 is under 500 but doc will not give me an injection. I take b12 spray every now and then but it's expensive. Thanks for r,y
I think the Solgar sublingual tablets might work out cheaper if your GP is refusing to give you injections. If you used them regularly for say three months, and there was no improvement in the neuropathy. Then it probably is due to the diabetes, but I am not a doctor. I'm just trying to think of a way to pinpoint the cause for you. If the neuropathy did get better, then you would have proved you do need B12.
