When I became so ill 3 years ago my usual dose of thyroxine made me hyper both in symptoms and bloods low TSH high ft4.It was if I could not tolerate thyroxine and if I lowered dose felt so hypo but the symptoms were so very bad, worse than I have ever felt. Things have not improved since then

,even on t3 only What would be the cause of that

susiebow, maybe it's your body that doesn't like synthetic thyroid hormones. You might have to have a trial of NDT and if the first one you try doesn't help too much you'd have to try a few. I tried about 4 before I found, for me, the perfect one. I'm lucky also that I'm fine on T3. By the way is your T3 a UK one, i.e. Mercury Pharma.

Shaws which dessicated thyroid do you take, I might try NDT next?

I don't take NDT now (but I know which one to get if I ever need it). I found Nature-throid suited me best but sometimes we have to try one or two if you don't feel an improvement after several months.

Hello Susiebow,

I can not tolerate thyroid meds either, hopefully trying NDT like Shaws suggests will solve the problems.

There are lots of other things that can be done to improve your health and maybe then the body will be more accepting of Thyroid meds. I will be trying this theory Tuesday.

At present I only take the same amount of meds as I did years ago but because of all the other things i have done, on the whole I am so much better (but not yet well and do get occasional bad days) but I am getting there and you will to.

Wishing you the best of luck

I cannot tolerate synthetic thyroid hormones. On T4 I suffered the problems you do and more and even the pharmacist said it is as though you are both hypo and over medicated. Although not perfect I am very much better on NDT. Have tried both T3 and T4 again since getting all my vitamins etc in line but still cannot tolerate either.

Hi susiebow, I'm similar to you, low tsh high t4 but symptoms worse on lower dose. They are trying to convince me I hve cfs but I'm not going there, there are more tests and maybe t3 or ndt to try first.

Have you got yr test results with ranges, maybe if you post them together with what doses you were on there are some clever people here who might be able to comment further. Hve you tried different makes of t4/t3 that's what I'm trying now as at mo I'm on combination of actavis 100 and wokhart 2x25 and got new script for 150actavis.

Not what you're looking for?
