Hashi's

One thing I can't find the answer on is that I note that you can swing between Hypo and Hyper with Hashi's. With that in mind, how the heck do we get accurate blood test results and the correct dose of Levo then if things are back and forth?

Jefner, Blood results are a snapshot in time and will be an accurate reflection of your serum levels at the time of the blood draw.

Hashimoto's can cause transient hyperthyroidism ie elevated FT3 as destroyed cells dump hormone. Subsequent attacks will atrophy the thyroid gland and cause hypothyroidism. When swinging between hyper and hypo it's possible FT3 is no longer raised significantly although patients may *feel* hyper. Some patients adjust their Levothyroxine dose, reducing when they feel hyper and then raising when they begin to feel hypo.

that's interesting thanks Clutter. Sent my blood back this morning and hoping for results by end of week or Monday. Will post on here when I get them. Am hopeful but also very nervous at what my antibodies will come out at as they were 4000 when last checked early December. Wondering if all my severe anxiety is probs that I am still taking a little too much Levo as I stopped alternating between 100/125 and have just been taking 125. If I am going to be at the up and down stage and for eg my tests come back that I need a slight reduction, how long would the reduction take to get into my system so I can monitor things better?

Jefner, it takes around 7-8 days to wash out the higher dose when you reduce dose. If FT4 or FT3 were very high (over range) it could take a few weeks for levels to drop into range.

thank you honey. Just ordered a cortisol saliva test from Genova. Had everything else checked. Thought it would be useful info as well for my Endo. Never had one before, if I detail the results here will anyone be able to decipher them for me?

Jefner, someone should be able to interpret them for you if you post them with the ranges in a new question.
