Hi Farie, your T4 is high but T3 without seeing the ranges I would say not optimal, also having very high T4 gives you body more biulding blocks to build RT3, so the higher the T4 you have the more you feel terrible, I'd try T3 only. Google Paul Robinson T3 and watch utube videos or read his protocol also look at Wison's Syndrome he uses T3 Sustained release.

Personally I am on Dr Wilson protocol with T3 SR and 4 days into my second cycle, my temps are coming up, today I averaged 97.5 Average first day 96.3.

I was on NDT T4&T3 it also didn't work for me.I took it for 3 months and got up to 6 grains in the end. I think if I took 10 grains nothing would happen.

from the ranges i read t4 isnt even in range an t3 just in and tsh to high..i had rt3 done last year when t4 was high n t3 out an no issues so the specialist said..he is not wantin to try me on t3 only cos of my symptoms i already have..had done cortisol siliva last year as well an that indecated low but he never done anythink..so hence bit lost what to do..i will take a look at dr wilson..

I would go to a GP and say you want to try T3 only, this would save the cost and time it takes to see a specialist. Start reading/researching and keep see doctors until you get what you need, good luck :)

im in nz an they dont beleive in t3 medicatin hence specialist that has the more updated know..but limited to specialist 2..on my 2nd 1 now as endos turn blind eye

farie,

Can you give the ranges for members to decide.

A doctors normal is rarely the same as what members have found to be an agreeable level.

Your reverse T3 level will be important if you are medicating and not converting. Can you supply (even it it was last year).

There's no background on your Profile of your thyroid history. i.e. when diagnosed and hormones you've tried. Doses you've been on (you can press on my name to see mine although I admit it's not updated yet. I am well and living a life. I have been like you, very, very unwell and not knowing what to do next as doctors seem to have some sort of 'blind spot' when the patient is not surving/reviving on levothyroxine.

You should always put the ranges of your results as labs differ in their machines so the ranges are different and the ranges help members to comment.

At present your TSH is far too high, you need more thyroid hormones. If your T4 is too low your body cannot convert it to sufficient T3. It is T3 which is needed in our receptor cells. T4 has no function other than to convert to T3.

You don't state what combination you're on with T3/T4. It must be far too low is my opinion. To feel better we need our TSH to be around 1 or lower.

New research has shown that the combination of T3/T4 should be approx 1 part T3 to 3 parts T4 and one daily dose.

It is an unusual dose - 40mcg of T4 (levothyroxine) usually it comes in 25mcg, 50mcg or 100mcg.

I just want to confirm that you are taking:-

40mcg of levothyroxine and 10mcg of T3 at night?

or

is it 40mcg of T4 plus 10mcg T3 morning and night equal to 80mcg of T4 and 20mcg of T3 daily?

in reply tofarie02

farie,

You are NOT a mental case. You have a HUGE hormonal imbalance that doctors do not recognise.

If you weren't converting well on T4 alone you might have developed the conditions I have described below.

Until these are addressed it won't matter what thyroid meds you take as the underlying causes remain unchallenged.

If you don't know your nutrient or iron levels you need to have them tested and any deficiencies supplemented.

Low B12, Vit D, Folate or Ferritin can have detrimental effects on the synthesis of thyroid hormone.

Low thyroid hormone will compromise adrenal health and cortisol may be high or low but again both can be detrimental to thyroid hormone synthesis.

how am i ment to no wat ranges to be in??

in reply tofarie02

farie,

Like the thyroid test results you have already given, your nutrient results will come with numbers in brackets after.

ie - my own recent B12 result was 128 (25-108pmol/L)

I can not give exact ranges as each lab uses different ranges but if you post results members will be able give their opinion as to whether you are optimal ( or not).

A doctors "normal" is not always the same as a level that members have found to be most beneficial to thyroid hormone synthesis. Doctors are not experts on thyroid issues and so go on their general guidelines which are not exact enough for people with autoimmune compromised bodies.

Most members on the forum are supplementing something or another. Deficiencies will (indirectly) interfere with thyroid meds working.

so does than mean your to high in b12?

Lol.

Yes but that's another story !

farie,

TSH of 10.13 of far too high and could make you feel quite awful, especially as you are medicating.

I had a lot of trouble with my head too but now have managed to make thyroid meds work well for me. Without ranges it is hard to guess what levels you actually have but I found introducing T3 helped enormously.

Sometimes the test results are irrelevant anyway because it is the amount of hormone that is working on an intracellular level that makes all the difference. I had perfect results for four years but actually felt like I was slowly dyeing.

Are you multi dosing T3 and taking pills on an empty stomach with a glass of water, 1 hour before food, 2 hours before supplements and 4 hours before calcium, iron or vit D supplements?

Are you optimal in iron and nutrients and supplementing things such as selenium that will help with conversion, and do you have good gut health so you are actually absorbing hormones and nutrients?.

Do you have food intolerances or blood sugar issues?

Is your adrenal health good and if you have antibodies are they managed ?

Are your sex hormones balanced or are you suffering horrid periods or maybe menopausal?

The longer we remain improperly medicated the more chance of the body becoming stuck in a chronic state of immune system overload, adrenal insufficiency, gut dysbiosis, impaired digestion, inflammation, and thyroid hormone release abnormalities.

If you provide more info members will be able to give better informed answers.

farie,

Ask your doctor to test Vit B12, Vit D, Folate & Ferritin and post results complete with ranges ( numbers in brackets) for members to comment.

I hope you feel better soon,

Fairie, you are undermedicated to have TSH 10 and FT4 below range and need a lot more T4. FT3 4.7 is usually reasonably good but will almost certainly be partly due to high TSH flogging your thyroid to convert. Most people will feel well with TSH 1.0 or lower, FT4 in the mid to upper quadrant, and FT3 in the top third of range.
