Hi All

I had a routine checkup four months ago, seems all OK but Doctor increase my thyroid hormone tablets to 200mg from 100mg, I have resently started to get pressure feelings on my chest, it is worse at night time and aukward to get to sleep

I'm sorry you're not feeling too well. I am very surprised your GP doubled your levo dose from 100mcg to 200m mcg, so I think maybe it has caused you to feel not so good. Usually Endos/GPs only raised levo dose by increments of 25mcg about every six weeks until the patient feels better.

I would suggest, depending how long you've been taking 200mcg to drop by 50mcg and keep to that dose for a while.

Do you have a copy of your latest blood test results, with the ranges, to post so that members can comment on them.

Next time your blood test is due, make the earliest possible appointment and fast (you can drink water) and leave about 24 hours from your last dose of levo and the test and take levo afterwards.

Agreed. Dramatic changes should only ever be made in response to emergency situations.

It is nothing at all like taking two paracetamol/aspirin/ibuprofen tablets instead of one. With those, a double-dose is reasonable. With thyroid hormone of any sort, it isn't.

Smary, if doctor said all was OK with your tests why did he increase your dosage. That is quite a leap from 100mcgs to 200mcrgs. 100%

I can't comment about your symptoms you are having now except to say it must be due to the large increase.

I am sure others more knowledgeable will be able to give you some good advice.

Smary7010, Dose increases are usually in 25mcg increments and 100mcg increase is unusually large. I think you should request a thyroid test to see whether you are overmedicated which may be what's causing the symptoms. Take Levothyroxine after the blood draw.

Tell your doc and get advice. 100mcg sounds like a big jump in one go.

Sounds like a side effect of the tablets. Know several people who had a similar experience. Some have it on a low dose, others when the dose increases. I doubt it will shift if you continue to take those tablets at least in that dose.

The next thing you will hear is that it is the fillers in the tablet, not the actual ingredients. Yet we keep reading that if we have too much thyroid we get various side effects, so that doesnt add up. And it stands to reason you can have too little or too much. Anyway what does it matter if it is the ingredients or the fillers, either way you are suffering and need to think of what you can do about it.
