Hello Jeanielee

You haven't been medicating long. How do feel? Are you still symptomatic?

TSH of 2.06 is quite high went medicating thyroid hormones and many members have found they function better with a TSH of 1.0 or below.

Your doctor is happy with your results because they are within range. Do you have other results to post?

You can concentrate on trying to make meds work better by ensuring nutrients and iron levels are optimal and adrenal health is good.

Many find supplementing selenium helps with the T4-T3 conversion but I would say you are still under medicated and probably would benefit from raising Levo to 75mcg a day.

Hi Flower thanks for your reply, I'm tempted to up my meds to 75 MCG I don't seem to have any adverse symptoms apart from weight gain and low mood

in reply toJeanielee1

Jeanielee,

Both weight gain and low mood are classic symptoms of being under medicated.

It would be better to know your T4 (& T3 ) levels before upping your dose but in light of this being your first dosing I would think that you just haven't reached your optimal yet (so under medicated.)

If your doctor is uncooperative and you are self medicating the extra 25mcg T4 ( without your doctors knowledge) it would be prudent to private blood test your thyroid hormones in six weeks after dose change as is imperative to know where you are at (too much thyroid hormone can be dangerous.)

Symptoms may lag six weeks behind good biochemistry and thyroid meds will only work well with optimal nutrient and iron levels.

Good luck

Thankyou for all your advice, I need to have a chat with my doc, I take a good multi vitamin and min also take extra magnesium and have just started taking Tyrosine which is supposed to help thyroxin work better.

in reply toJeanielee1

jeanielee,

A multi vit will only contain nutrients suitable for a maintenance dose and will not contain enough to address identified deficiencies. Nutrient levels need to be tested to assess what is low. A doctors normal is not (usually) the same level at that what members have found to be most beneficial regarding aiding thyroid hormone synthesis.

I take a lot of supplements known to aid thyroid hormone synthesis and researched tyrosine but found it is actually bad for thyroid hormones.

Although thyroid hormones are made (by your thyroid gland) via the enzyme thyroid peroxidase which combines with the amino acid tyrosine, this is also a precursor for the neurotransmitters dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine.

Therefore supplementing tyrosine will increase these adrenal hormones that in turn result in physiological and psychological changes (fight or flight) that can suppress thyroid function.

Also an excess of adrenal hormones can cause anxiety, insomnia, heart palpitations and high BP.

Tyrosine has been used in the treatment of depression and mustn't be taken with other anti-depressants (similar to St Johns Wort).

Be aware that supplementing tyrosine may skew your thyroid hormone blood test results.
