Blood results today

Got results back today. Back again in another 4 weeks. Still feel tired and gaining weight rapidly. I don't need to see an Endo apparently as my results are not that bad. Weight gain is due to overeating and not my UAT. Greatful for any advice or suggestions 😀😀

No, thats completly wrong.... Your tsh is flagged as high and 11 is far too high. Are you on medication? You should be and if so, it needs increasing.

Have a read of the pulse article, louise warville will let you have a copy... Or have a read of undertanding thyroid problems by a toft. ( on kindle for a couple of £.). Dr toft is an endocrinologist who used to be head of the British thyroid association..... A bit of a motley bunch but for some obscure reason they are liked by the medics..... They have funny ideas and tend to keep patients ill as far as i can see, but the info in the book and the article, says that you are aiming to get your free t4 and free t3 towards the top of the range and your tsh around 1.

Your doc might take notice of Dr Toft.

Yes i started on 25mg then 50 and now 75 as of last week. I just want answers as to why I feel so tired all the time and constantly hungry. I had lost over 8 stone but 3 has crept on. So frustrated is in understatement ! Really appreciate your feedback xx

Northdown23, you are still very hypothyroid and that's why you feel so tired. You need dose increases every 6-8 weeks until your TSH is 1.0. Symptoms may lag behind good biochemistry by another couple of months.

Apologies, I had to delete my first response as I got the wrong end of the stick. So let's try again. Yes, your TSH is far too high - you're on 50mcg of Levo? You need a raise in dose.

Your GP should have raised your dose - there isn't any need to refer you to an endo at this stage but the GP does need to do his/her job and increase your medication! Your TSH is higher now than it was 3 months ago - not quite sure why he/she thinks there's a need to wait any longer. I can never understand why they think it's fine to put you on any amount of antidepressants but not to give you hormone replacement that would likely solve the problem.

Dose just raised to 75 last week. More bloods required in 6 weeks time. Why do i feel the need to eat rubbish all the time ? Never feel full and always hungry ! Tiredness is unreal too. Grateful for any advice xx

No idea how long you have been going up with the thyroid meds but your doc is being very conservative. There is a train of thought which says you may do ok if you start on a full replacement dose.... Here's the link..., aafp.org/afp/2006/0401/p127...

A replacement dose is more likely to be nearer 200 than 100 mg.... Depends on many factirs apparantly.

If you continue with the 25 mg at a time increases, you need to make absolutely sure you are tested regularly and the dosage increased every 6 weeks.... So, after 3 or 4 weeks, make testing and doctor appointments.... I would take the paper i just linked to in to the doc and ask him for a 150 dose.

The food craving might be linked to adrenals, they will be working hard to prop you up.... You probably need plenty of vitamin c and b vitamins to give the adrenals a hand.

I'm not pregnant. I don't know why it mentions this on the page. It's a bit strange. I'm 45 and sterilised x

You are another patient who has to study the effect of thyroid hormones, so that you can educate your doctor who is woefully inept, it would appear. :)

NorthDown23,

I would point out the pregnancy mistake, and tell them you want anither blood test! These could be for someone else.
