I cannot emphasize enough, how good Virgin coconut oil, cold pressed is for you, shame that many do not like the taste. This is especially good for all of us hypos.

Also the price in your local Halal, is much much cheaper than anywhere else..I pay £3.19 for a 480ml glass jar of it. Of course in the west end of Newcastle, we have loads of Halals.

I know, I used to use it and make chocolate with it and cook with it... a gut problem stopped me being able to tolerate MCFA's... I wish someone on here could solve that one ;-)

Yes I know Linda, such a shame, oh another one to cook with is Palm oil, still best with coconut oil though. Do you know why you can't tolerate mcfas?

Is Palm oil safe.ish? V, I had an ironclad gut, barely ever any problem [maybe twice in my lifetime did I have a v. temporary blip]... almost 4 years ago huge bloating [only goes down with antibiotics - I take herbal antibiotics and probiotics all of the time to try to keep gut down and to try to avoid ABX]. First time bloating coincided with my usual use of coconut oil and FOS [used in the chocolate I made]... process of elimination it was the coconut oil. Tried a couple of times since, it makes the bloat appear - which doesn't go down - then requires ABX to get rid of; unbelievable because what's in coconut oil is meant to help, BUT there must be something about the structure of Mcfa's that's a no-no NOW for me. I can't try again because once it goes up... that's it :-( I could not be more sad about losing this fab product.

Oh yes, and I forgot to add Palm oil to the list of good oils to fry with, heats up to a good smoking point, think that it's even higher than VCO, meant to add it.

Really bad is the forest clearences to grow more palm oil and the killing of wildlife like orang utans.

Hi Linda again, found this alternative to coconut oil, never heard of it, Babassu oil, very similar to coconut oil, comes from Brazil, no wonder there. This might be ok for you, you could only try.

I remember reading that palm oil is bad for your health.

In the spur of the moment, I bought a bottle of hemp oil and now, after reading about it, I don't know if I should use it at all. Has anybody ever used such an oil?

catrich in reply toRebec

Don't think palm oil is bad for your health at all but it is most definitely bad for the environment and wildlife. Palm oil is BIG business and the deforestization that results in places like Malaysia is leading to the likely EXTINCTION of orangutans and the Sumatran tiger -within the next decade. It will be fine on your head but perhaps not on your conscience!

It is suggested to only buy the sustainable one, which I would, but have only used it a couple of times in the past. I support the planet, the governments don't, so it is up to us consumers.

langdocienne in reply tocatrich

Hi Catrich, I have only used it in the past a couple of times, but much prefer coconut oil. It is suggested that you only buy the sustainable one, and I would, but as I don't use it, it is irrelevant. Palm oil, is one of the good oils, and has a high smoking point, and does not oxidise.

langdocienne in reply toRebec

Hi Rebec, no palm oil is a good oil, very high smoking point, and pretty low in polyunsaturates, hemp oil is really good for you, but when I took it, I felt very tired, so doesn't agree with me.

Rebec in reply tolangdocienne

You meant to say: no, palm oil is a good oil, didn't you? Hemp oil can't be used for frying, and that what I'm looking for, as its smoking point is low. I don't understand why sunflower oil is bad as my mother used it and I'm sure my grandmother too and it's not like margarine which should never have been offered for human consumption.

Are you originally from France as your nickname indicates?

langdocienne in reply toRebec

Hi Rebec, Yes that is what I said lol, I know that it is good for you, heats at a high smoke point. My grandfather was French, he died when my Dad was 9, my nana was Southern Irish, and all of her family, were from Italian stock. My Mum's family the same, English, but from Southern Irish. My ex was French, so my kids, have a lot of French in them. Langdocienne is from my from fav motorway, I used to live with my kids on my own, near Beziers, I had a small vineyard there, even though I don't drink lol.

How could you have lived among the French and not drink wine😁! They even give it to children! I almost forgot, having also Italian ancestry should have made you enjoy a glass of wine too! lol

Hi Rebec, Lol, I have never liked alcohol, just as well now, as it is bad for us hypos.

Some sites say that hemp/flax seeds and oils are goitrogenic, maybe why it made you feel tired?

langdocienne in reply toSilver_Fairy

Hi silver_fairy, yes I know, I realised that even without looking, as I put on weight a couple of years ago, I am 5.45, and only 8.2, so weight is certainly not what I want, I got rid of it fast though. I am dedicated to staying as healthy as poss, never ever a thing that is bad for me. Tell you what, I have found makes one heck of a difference, of course firstly my self-medicating with T3, but also 10000mg of MSM crystals, pure organic, together with 1 tsp of ascorbic acid, oh 1 tsp of each twice daily, but never after about 3, otherwise I'll never sleep. I am now truly throwing myself into my Salsa, and I go out as well, and work for myself 6 days a week, and still have 4 of my 7 at home.
