Taking iron will raise your ferritin level but its a slow job. :-(. Are you taking it with vitamin c to help you to absorb it?

Hello - i read that ferrous fumarate might work, have you tried that? I would love to know if it works.

My ferritin is at 11 and my haemoglobin at 7.9....I was told it was "a bit on the low side" but my own research leads me to believe it is very low.....

Hi What is your iron? That gives the transference % which is the absorption. It should be high.

Nature's Plus HemaPlex is a high strength iron complex that is very effective at raising ferritin levels. That is very low ferritin and will definitely be contributing to your fatigue. Hope that helps x

Hi Lindsey.

Don't take iron supplements at the same time as calcium. It blocks absorption.

Hi lindsey1987, an iron infusion may be helpful for you, if you can get it.

I was severely anaemic and luckily for me, I saw an gastroenterologist for an unrelated condition and he said I wouldn't absorb iron sufficiently from the gut and sent me for an infusion, I did have to wait six months but it has helped tremendously. They put the iron straight into the bloodstream via a drip over a few hours. It is not an instant cure, but I felt much much better after a coup of weeks and stopped falling asleep everywhere, also was no longer breathless when going upstairs etc..

Lindsay1987 I had a friend due for a fibroid op. As she did not want a blood transfusion , she was told her iron stocks were low and to get them up before the op. She took Spatone available over the counter at chemists especially the larger ones, and returned for her pre-op when they asked her what she had done as her iron stocks were great, so could be worth a try. Good write up on internet too. Let us know if it worked for you should you choose to take it.
