Hi everyone,

I am not doing well on T4 and im going to speak to my endo about trying T3 only for a while. I dont think he will be too happy as he wanted me to come off levo totally.

When on T3 how are T4 bloods monitored...will they show a low T4.

Thanks

Christine

My endo said that it is difficult to monitor by blood tests once on T3 I'm not sure why.

He is going to start me on T3 shortly but he wanted me to try increasing my T4 again first which I did and the usual speeding up and racing thoughts happened so I will not be doing that again.

I hope your endo will listen to you carefully. I had an awful one and asked to be referred back and ended up on a different endo' list and he is so much better!!

Good luck x

Yorkshiregirl, FT4 is usually lower when T3 is added. How much lower will depend on how much T3 is added to Levothyroxine.

Christine why did he want you to come off?

Six million dollar question.....he thinks i dont need them...iv been on levo 5 years, was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid in 2010.....i now have high tsh and low T4....and i have Hashimotos.

He lowered T4 from 100 to 75 because i refused to stop taking them. I

hjvae no energy and lots of symptoms which would get worse without hormone replacement.

That really doesn't make sense if your tsh is high and T4 low to come off levo. Can you get a different doctor?

I know, it makes no sense at all. I have an appointment to see this endo later this month and if i get no joy i will ask to see someone else. My GP does not commit either way to what the endo has said, she jsut says things change has you get older.
