I think it would be o.k. although I've no experience but I took NDT and added some T3. Take your pulse and temp several times a day anyway and I hope it works for you. Also members take a mixture of T4 and T3 and by different suppliers.
my instinct is telling me at least a 25mcg increase (was on 62.5mcg tiromel, endo put me on 40mcg liothyronine and i felt undermedicated then but she was convinced i was over medicated and wanted my TSH mid range, at moment its TSH 0.50, if dr not happy ill ask for T4
Mandy, don't let your doctor change your meds. Mid range tsh for hypo isn't good for the majority. Around 1 is better and at 0. 5 you are still within range. Remember not to take any t3 at least 24 hours before a blood test which should be as early in the morning as possible. That is when your tsh is at its highest.
I supplement tiromel on top of my nhs t3 and do good. I hope that your doc is checking your t3 as that is what you are taking. T3 does lower your tsh so checking that is irrelevant.
Why would she not ask for a t3 test when that is what you are taking. I wouldn't necessarily tell your doc that you are supplementing. I haven't. If you feel better taking the extra t3 then carry on doing it. 62.5 is maybe not enough for you, I am prescribed 80 on nhs and take another 25 as that keeps me better than just the 80. 2 nights before the test I only take 60 and then my t3 comes back at the top of the range. Hope this helps xx
i think endo was more concerned with ruling cushings beacuse of high cortisol, (i did hear her say something about suspecting cushings when she seen me, not sure what that meant) i deffinatly felt hypo on 62.5mcg and if i add 25mcg that only gives me a 2.5mcg increase that i dont think will be enough so i might try 1 and 1/2 extra tiromel tabs today
When do you take your t3? I take all of mine at bedtime and sleep well. As I was changing to that I just kept moving my separate doses of t3 to later in the day until it was time for bed. It definitely suits me better with no tired spells during the day, or only very occasionally.
Sorry I don't know anything about high cortisol, but try your extra t3 first. Good luck.
I used to split mine but moved my am dose to lunch and lunch to tea and so on. Just a few hours at a time. It took about a week all in all but was so worth it. Just let them melt under the tongue and drink water.
I think it's better to go a little slower although I know what it's like to want to improve quickly. 25mcg of T3 is equal, in effect, to between 75 and 100mcg levo.
mandy 72, Sorry to hijack your post, just reading through todays list. Thanks, Stourie, for mentioning no meds 24 hours before bloods, I have known this for a long time but (brain fog) forgot I have appointment in the morning (8.30am) and have already taken 2 of 3, T3 doses ! (last one at 2pm) I will miss out my last one and hope that does the trick. I'd forget my head if it wasn't screwed on, yesterday a pan of potatoes boiled dry, the smoke alarm went off !!!
i too split my doses one in the am one at about 11 and next one at about 5pm but am increaseing the two earlier ones my 5mcg each to see if I feel better have just switched to tiromel from another brand and it does not feel as strong as the greece t3.
