Association between hypothyroidism and fatty liver disease

This popped into my inbox yesterday and I thought it might be of interest. It might explain why some of us have fatty liver disease: medscape.com/viewarticle/85...

It would be good to know what we can do about the liver - any suggestions?

Reduce carbohydrates and fructose in the diet :

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/195...

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/236...

Seems to me to be another vote for low carb, high fat diets. :)

Hi Lisa,

i too found out i had fatty liver along with gallstones after numerous raised ALT results.

Sent for ultrasound in march this year when confirmed.

Funny now, since being on t3 only for 22 weeks. I have had 4 blood tests over this period and each time my ALT'S have reduced till second to last was then in normal range after being raised for over a year or possibly longer.

When i went for my last bloods i knew i needed to increase in my t3 but tried to hold off till after but so bad couldn't and increased day before.

Well shock at results as tsh had jumped up to 1.1 from 0.16 3 weeks earlier and ALT'S had risen out of range. Ft4 and ft3 should have been done but obviously because tsh was in range they didn't. By god i wish they had because i know my ft3 would have been on the floor again and probably ft4 would have changed too.

I'm having bloods again next week before consultant appointment so hoping i don't need increase and stay on my resent dose and wait for new results and luckily i'll be in normal range again.

So in short.. 22 weeks on t3 only have brought my ALT'S into normal range.... coincidence or not?!!!

Oh and in 22 weeks i have my life back too....coincidence or not?!!!!
