Hello leahcim,
Ferritin is a protein found inside cells that stores iron so your body can use it later. A ferritin test indirectly measures the amount of iron in your blood and in healthy people is a good indicator of the total amount of iron stored in all body tissues.
Low levels can cause shortness of breath, fatigue, dizzines amongst numerous other symptoms.
I can't see from your profile or previous posts if you are medicating but low iron levels will interfere with thyroid meds working.
I note from a previous post you also advised of test results
B12 222 197.0 - 866.0 pg/ml
Folate 4.8 4.6 - 18.7 ng/ml
These are all SERIOUSLY LOW results and could indicate possible future anaemias. ... iron deficiency .. B12 or folate deficiency anaemia.
Are you being treated....what did your doctor say?
You advised you were doing private thyroid blood tests 3 weeks ago...do you have the results to post yet?
A raised lymphocyte count might indicate inflammation (auto immune activity...?.) in the body.
Post all results you have complete with ranges (numbers in brackets ) for members to comment.
You must feel quite unwell leahcim, but all deficiencies can be addressed to improve your symptoms. Others with more experience will comment on your above results and advise of supplements. (I can't as have high B12 & iron overload..!!)

Thats weird because the only out of range level i had on my recent NHS blood test was
Lymphocyte count 4.2 (1.0 - 3.5)
i had my thyroid done privately twice
2 years ago i got
TSH 1.45 mIU/L 0.27 - 4.2
FREE THYROXINE 12.8 pmol/l 12.0 - 22.0
FREE T3 6.1 pmol/L 3.1 - 6.8
then about 3 weeks ago privately
CRP 1.50 <3.0 mg/L
Ferritin 62.1 30 - 400 ug/L
Thyroid Function
Free T4 15.66 12 - 22 pmol/L
Free T3 6.03 3.1 - 6.8 pmol/L
TSH 1.47 0.27 - 4.20 IU/L
T4 Total 98.0 64.5 - 142.0 nmol/L
Immunology
Anti-Thyroidperoxidase abs 7.3 <34 kIU/L
Anti-Thyroglobulin Abs 14.3 <115 kU/L
Vitamins
Vitamin B12 166 Deficient 250-725
Serum Folate 11.02 10.4 - 42.4 nmol/L
then a week back with the NHS as they wanted to do there own ...
FBC was all normal except for
Lymphocyte count 4.2 1.0 - 3.5
and then ofcourse the b12 folate and ferritin which seemed low normal
B12 222 197.0 - 866.0 pg/ml
Folate 4.8 4.6 - 18.7 ng/ml
Ferritin 44 30.0 - 400.0 ng/ml
i honestly have no clue what to do i started methyl b12 supplements a few days ago but thats it so far
Leahcim,
Your C reactive protein is in range indicating there is no inflammation in the body.
There are no thyroid antibodies....lucky you.
Your thyroid hormone results have room for improvement but meds would probably work better if you supplement your deficiencies.
If others don't give you answers of what & how much to supplement...you will need to repost as a new question.
You need answers to B12, folate and ferritin.
It looks like your nutrient deficiencies are the cause of your symptoms so if you treat those....you should feel better.
Flower.
Thank you so much flower, im going to look into getting them sorted
Hi - I can't comment on your levels etc but if it helps, here's my recent experience with iron: I had a low count very recently and have been taking supplements as recommended by my Endo (one a day at 200mg - quite a low dose as I'm not anaemic). I was also low on D3 so have been taking that as well (though that can take a few months to kick in apparently) so a month or two to go on that one.
My thyroxine dose was also high at 125mg as I recently lost weight over six months and started being more active so that has been reduced as well to 100mg.
So - in short - I have been feeling incrementally better, especially since the side effects of the iron settled down (they were fun for a couple of weeks!) and it's been six weeks now. They recommended repeating the thyroid and iron tests at two months so I'm due that in a couple of weeks but so far, things have been slowly improving.
The symptoms I had were extreme fatigue and sluggish system but also hyper anxiety due to taking too much thyroxine so quite a mix. I also get painful joints and muscles and also female specific side effects that can also mean a drop in iron.
I realise this is quite vague given your specific question but I hope you get some improvement soon from your increased iron intake. I would say take it with vitamin C , which helps your system absorb it more quickly, and food as it can make you quite nauseous..
Good Luck!
Iron and cortisol are two VERY important relative to thyroid. This is a very good website for other thyroid information.
I agree with Denise above. Low ferritin gives lots of symptoms. Take some iron along with Vit c to help its absorption. Aim for mid range but once you hit 80 to 90 hopefully you might start to feel better. I did. Good luck
