Query regarding Ferritin Level

Hi

I have seen on the forum lots of times ferritin should be over 70 for thyroxine to work properly, but what range does this fall into.

The reason I am asking is that mine is 65 range 15 - 300 and yesterday I saw a Nutritionist and she said ideally it should be 150.

Would anyone care to comment on this please.

Many thanks browny

Mine is 19 but the range goes up to 336. I think the range must have changed (or perhaps at one time they were uniform - all up to 100 or something - but now they're all different depending on the lab) because I queried this on my own thread and someone noted the higher range for my tests.

Hi

Many thanks for your reply.

I am going to supplement but not sure what level I should be aiming for.

Yours is really low at 19 what level are you aiming for?

Heloise said "My ferritin is over the top of range but my lab range is topped at 150, yours is 336 which makes your result even worse and 90 would still not be very high." healthunlocked.com/thyroidu... So I guess higher than 90. :-)

I just got my results today so I don't know yet what I should aim for. I will have a lot of reading up to do.

My ferritin last year was 88 but I took Spatone for a month and when I think back I did feel better then so maybe it does need to be higher than the 70 - 90

This is one of the grounds on which I queried the assertion that ferritin should/must be over 70.

I agree with you - it will depend on lab range, like so many things.

In my current view, ferritin alone is not a sufficient basis to make a decision. High or low ferritin seems to be a good warning flag, but there need to be some other measurements to gain a full picture. After all, inflammation is a cause of elevated ferritin.

I believe half way in range is desirable.
