Non existent T4, Sky high T3 and a non suppressed TSH. What does this mean?
Hi, I'm the newbie who has just been diagnosed (previous post, just told my thyroid is dead) so I'm fresh from reading books etc. could it be that you are also producing inactive reverseT3 (rT3) in high amounts, in which case it could be taking up the space in cells meant for T3, leading to T3 being available but not used, and the pituitary shouting for more T4 which will in fact not help greatly as you'll carry on converting to rT3? You can have blood tests to check the rT3 levels and 'free' T3.
Or it could be your on the wrong Meds...
This is another article which you might find of interest re RT3:. If you go to the date March 24, 1999 on the following link:
Is there anything like an adenoma that produces only T3? I honestly don't know.
What are the actual test results?
Free T4 L 2.77 12 - 22 pmol/L
Free T3 H 12.83 3.1 - 6.8 pmol/L
TSH 2.08 0.27 - 4.20 IU/L
T4 Total L 24.7 64.5 - 142.0 nmol/L
Immunology
Anti-Thyroidperoxidase abs H 404.4 <34 kIU/L
Anti-Thyroglobulin Abs H 479.7 <115 kU/L
Hi
If that were the case, ie needing more T3, would it still be absorbed and not show in the blood test? I have thought in the past about Hormone Resistance though. I couldn't take T4.
I will send you my email address. Thank you.
Susan
p.s. We are a family of auto immune disorders. My aunt has hypothyroid and coeliacs, I have this and my daughter has type 1 diabetes.
I've just come across your post Number1 and, looking through others, wondered if you'd had B12 tested?
Four in my family have autoimmune/thyroid/B12 deficiency - they're often interlinked and symptoms overlap but some, such as tingling in feet, could definitely be a neurological sign of B12 def:
