Private blood tests

Hi,

I am on thyroxine (prescribed by a private consultant over two years ago and now I'm managed by my GP again), I have recently been feeling the same old symptoms back, cold to the bones and just can't get warm, extremely tired, nausea, highly strung, irritable and not sleeping etc and when I went back to my GP, they did my bloods but just said it was normal.

I am wondering whether to go for a full Private thyroid test again (had one before the referral two years ago as my GP wasn't listening to my symptoms and wanted to give me a to depressants) and this led to me being referred to the consultant but as this time I am on thyroxine, do I just take it as normal or am I best to stop it for a few days or a week before the test so it doesn't distorte the readings?

Thanks

Emma

Welcome to the forum, Emmalemma.

Normal just means results are within range. They may not be optimal. Patients are entitled to see their tests results. Ask your GP receptionist or practice manager for a printout of your results with the lab ref ranges and post them in a new question for advice.

If you want a full thyroid panel you can order from Blue Horizon or Genova via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Leave 24 hours between last dose and blood draw, any longer will distort results. Have the blood drawn early in the morning when TSH is highest and before food and drink which lower TSH. Drink water as dehydration makes drawing blood difficult.
