Kalif, that's one rubbish endo. I've had no appetite since starting Levothyroxine and I've lost a stack of weight. The only time I've managed to gain weight is 2 x 4 week periods off Levothyroxine and it dropped off when I resumed Levothyroxine.

What makes me so cross is the amount these docs are paid to spout this claptrap! Haven't they got the Internet at home?! They could spend a few minutes looking up some basic information about their own "speciality".

Sorry, Kalif, you have had a bad experience with this one, I hope you find better care soon. 😊

Maybe they are just as ignorant in using the internet as they are at there own speciality.

Hello Lizzy1606, yes, you're right, they don't have any real interest in what they are doing. What a pity, as they could do so much good. There must be some diligent doctors out there?

I don't think that its only thyroid patients that have all these problems with doctors .They just cannot seem to put the whole picture together.

Iv had my thyroxine reduced and feel very low at the moment, this was a second opinion endro as the first one gave me a load of rubbish,I really don't think they know anything about the thyroid,I was told to stop looking for something that isn't there, and don't bother seeing private doctors, and to spend my money on something sensible, she new I had see doctor skinner....

Most of them are diabetes specialists, Kalif. And feel threatened by a well-informed patient, such as you. It is a scandal.

Who remembers there used to be something in - was it? - Woman's Own: "Things they say", which was priceless quotes from toddlers? We should totally start one for GPs, Endocrinologists and other specialists.

I may have smiled at her remarks but it is extremely worrying,I have lost all confidence in doctors,I don't know what the next move will be....

Louise Warville has, or used to have, a list of sensible healthcare professionals in the treatment of thyroids, Kalif. I don't see it on the forum here anywhere - but if you message her privately she may be able to put you on to someone who understands what they're doing and is more or less local to you.

Good luck!

Yes i feel the same ,When i was at the hospital June i told the doctor there its just tick box medicine.(i read it in a article the tick box medicine)And if my results are in the box then i must be ok.And until they start thinking outside the box nothing will change and we will be the ones who suffer.

Kalif but for all this you must keep fighting all the best Lizzy.

Oh poor you! It seems to me (and I've only been on this road for about 4 months) that thyroxine has hugely different impacts on everyone. I definitely piled weight on when I started taking it and felt much worse than before. Perhaps you are on the wrong dose and the people who drop weight are on their body's optimal dose and that allows them to get back to their "normal" weight? I saw an endo last week who explained that when thyroxine is making you feel bad it's probably because there is something else going on too. Actually he proved to be right as my blood tests show, so maybe you need other things tested too? Where do you live? Perhaps somebody can recommend a good specialist in your area? I really hope you find someone to help you feel betterx

I was lucky in that when i was first diagnosed i was living in Asia. i could buy my medication without a prescription, control my dosage and get blood tests whenever i wanted. Drs were generally useless and i was forced to become very well informed and sort myself out. best thing that could have happened. now i buy my medication when i'm away and if a Dr in the UK tells me i have to change my dosage based on numbers on a blood test rather than how I feel, I politely ignore them :)
