I get worried about my microwave and so I don't use it often. I'm embarrassed to admit that I bought it in 1988, so it is 27 years old. When I do use it I never stand anywhere near it while it does its job!

About the time I bought my one and only microwave! Or maybe mine was before that.

But I never liked anything I cooked in it, and it always seemed more trouble than cooking things traditionally! Although my kids loved a horrible concoction of chicken breast, courgettes, sherry and corn flour - among other things - that they found a recipe for in a book of recipes for microwave ovens. And that was about all we cooked in it for years.

So, got rid of it ages ago, when the kids grew up and developed some taste. Wouldn't have another one. Call me a dinosaur, but I find the whole idea a bit frightening.

I bought my first one in 1976. I was pregnant and was so worried about the 'rays' that when it was on I used to crawl about the kitchen floor on my hands and knees.

It was an absolute monster too - really huge. I'm afraid I've had a quite a few since. One blew up but the rest have gone to other people so it isn't as wasteful as it sounds.

My daughter had one that blew up. Didn't stop her getting another one, though! That would terrify the life out of me!

No, it's funny but it didn't bother me either. The thing that scared me most was when I was vacuuming and had the vacuum plugged in on the other side if the gas ring to where I was cleaning, I didn't realise that the ring was still on and the flex was draped over it until there was the most enormous BANG! It totally scared the day lights out if me. I couldn't think what on earth had happened. The microwave was much easier to deal with 😊

OMG! That must have been terrible!

That's always scarey, isn't it? Have I turned the gas out! I've tried to instill this into my brain - no food til the gas is out! So, most of the time, I do it automatically. Doesn't stop me worrying, though!
