Underactive thyroid : Hi I have a underactive... - Thyroid UK
Underactive thyroid
The same, although it's more soreness then pain down one side of throat. Not as frequently affected. Takes about three days to go.
Hi willow-jane
My son has had mouth and throat ulcers on and off since being diagnosed. I think they occur when thyroid levels are a bit haywire. But it's difficult to know. Also he has complained of a really sore throat, the doctor has looked down his throat and could'nt see any soreness. The same has happenened to another hypo who posted some time ago. Its a mystery. Difflam helped his throat ulcers the most. He also chewed vit c lozenges and make sure you are getting enough zinc to help fight infections.
Could be due to nutritional deficiencies. Get tested for :
Vitamin B12
Vitamin D
Folate
Iron
Ferritin
B12 should be up the top of the range, and the others should be at least mid-range. Supplement where necessary, but Don't expect your doctor to know anything about this. They rarely know about nutrition. Or thyroid!
When you get the results, post them here and someone will be able to advise you about supplementing.
