Underactive thyroid
Welcome to the forum, Daviespat.
Palpitations are very common in undiagnosed, under medicated and over medicated hypothyroidism. Can you post your recent thyroid results with the lab ref ranges as it helps members to advise whether you are optimally medicated. It is possible that you may have needed a dose increase rather than decrease, but if the palpitations improve on the lower dose that will have been the right decision.
I found that when I was being treated for Graves. Every time I needed my thyroxine increased the palps and hyper symptoms would start again, once the dise was increased things settled down until they needed increasing again. First time it happened I was sure I was going hyper again but someone on here said what clutter has said to you and that was what was wrong. Once you've posted your results with their ranges peole will have more idea.
Palpitations seem to happen when levels are low or high, but for me high blood pressure - where both are raised only occurs when levels are low and I'm hypo. Of course there can be other causes, so not absolutely reliable.
I have been having the same problems for awhile now. I have episodes where my heart races and then returns to normal. I am now having my blood pressure monitored as it has been unusually high. I am 9 stone 5ft 6in don't smoke and generally eat a healthy diet. I have been on 50mg levo for five years with no increase, all the doctor says is your tsh is fine!!! Our doctors don't test anything but tsh I would like to get some private blood tests to rule out any other defiencies but not sure what I would need and where to go. I did have a ECG a few years ago which was fine. The doctors now say if it remains high they will look into possible heart problems like arithmia. I am 62.
Thanks for your reply, I too think I am under medicated. I hope to get to the bottom of it in due course
