Joyce, a thyroid nodule is usually in the throat/neck well below the jawline. If it's not dental it may be a blocked saliva gland, your dentist will be able to advise, but lumps shouldn't be ignored.
You can get stones (salivary calculi) in the saliva glands. Sometimes they cause no symptoms but often they cause a bit of discomfort during mealtimes. It is worth getting it checked out if it's been there for a week or two. If you are going to the dentist soon you could tell them if you prefer not to get a special appointment with your doctor.
